Heating assistance reminder for low income Ohioans

The Ohio Department of Development and Area Agency on Aging 3 want to remind Ohioans assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines pay their heating bills.

Ohioans can visit energyhelp.ohio.gov to apply online, download a copy of the application, or find contact information for a local Energy Assistance Provider. Senior citizens may go to their local Area Agency on Aging office for help with assembling the required documents and completing their HEAP application.

Nils Riess was Chair of ONU Communication and Theatre Arts

Nils Riess, age 75, of Ada, Ohio, retired professor and Chair of the Communication and Theatre Arts Department of Ohio Northern University, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023.  

The Hospital Council of Northwest OH schedules public planning meetings, Nov. 16 and Dec. 8

The first of multiple Community Health Improvement Planning meetings will be virtually at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023.

The Kenton-Hardin Health Dept. and community partners with the assistance of The Hospital Council of Northwest Ohio will meet to develop a new Community Health Improvement Plan.

The second planning meeting is on Friday, Dec. 8 from 11:30 a.m-2:30 p.m. 

Typically every 3-5 years the Hospital Council of Northwest OH meets with members of the county to create a new Community Health Improvement Plan.

Dean Paul departs as head coach of ONU Football

Ohio Northern University has announced that long-time Head Football Coach Dean Paul will be leaving his position with the University now that the 2023 season has concluded. 

According to ONU Director of Athletics Tom Simmons, Paul leaves a lasting legacy at the University. "Dean has had a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of student athletes and so many others in the ONU community," Simmons said. "We are grateful for his two decades of service to the University, and we wish nothing but the best for him and his family."

Historic Downtown Kenton’s Window Wonderland

KENTON–The Kenton Historic Courthouse District reveal of the 2023 Window Wonderland will occur on Tuesday, November 21. The Kenton Lions Club: Ohio’s Biggest Small Town Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. around the courthouse square. Also planned for that evening is the lighting of the Hardin County Courthouse Christmas lights. 

Lima Symphony to bring winter-themed Symphony Storytimes to Ada

The Lima Symphony Orchestra brings its popular “Symphony Storytime” to the Ada Public Library this December. Throughout the season, the Lima Symphony hosts Symphony Storytime programs to Allen and surrounding counties extending the Symphony’s educational reach and impact. The program, “Dancing in the Snow” brings music, dancing, and favorite winter-themed books together into an interactive, educational storytime.
