Ada chamber meets Sept. 17

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at 8 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17, according to Deb Curlis, chamber president.

The meeting will take place at Community Health Professionals, South Main Street.

Hardin United Way Dine-In at Viva Maria's on Sept. 23

Viva Maria's of Ada will host the Tuesday, Sept. 23, Hardin County United Way Dine-In.

A percentage of the sales onSept. 23 will be contributed to the 2015 United Way Campaign. Hardin County United Way dine-ins schedules follow:

September 16 – Michael Angelos, Kenton
September 23 – Viva Maria’s, Ada
October 13 – Plaza Inn, Mt. Victory
October 14 – Arby’s, Kenton
October 23 – McDonald’s, Kenton 7am-7pm

Ada's strong railroad history -yesterday and today

This is the view from the Pennsylvania Railroad depot on Main Street looking westward.

Trains were once a huge part of Ada commerce and transportation, bringing 1,300 freight trains and 555 passenger trains through Ada in 1904 alone.

In 1905, a speed record of over 126 miles per hour was set on these rails. That same year, a watchman’s tower was installed due to safety concerns.

Formation underway to organize Ada Flight Civil Air Patrol

Organization is underway this fall for an Ada Flight Civil Air Patrol. Sean Beck, Ada Flight Commander, provided the Icon with the following information for persons interested in additional information.

Do you have interest in the military or aviation? Do you want to serve your country? If you answered yes, this program may be right for you. Challenge yourself to become a Cadet or Senior Member in the United States Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol.

Icon's Methodist steeple story and photos reach over 8,000 persons

Raise a 9-ton steeple 54 feet in the air in Ada and you are bound to have an audience.

The steeple story, videos and photos was the largest single viewed story ever posted on the Ada Icon.

Wait until you read the size of the audience. Thanks to Google Analytics (which records viewer information) and the power of social media, here’s how the Ada Icon spread the word about the steeple project to former Ada residents around the globe.

Welcome to 109 North Main Street, Ada - past and present

This is the view of the storefront of 109 North Main Street. In the past photo, the storefront held the Welsh Drug Store. Today, you can stop in for lunch at Jalapeno’s Mexican Grill. This location has housed many other groups and businesses in the years between, such as J. J. Breck’s massage therapy office, the Ada Area Senior Citizens Center, the Gallery Café, the Bluebird Knoll gift shop, and the local American Legion post.
