Beginning to feel like maple syrup weather

It’s beginning to feel like maple syrup weather as temperatures dip below freezing at night and rise above freezing during the day.

Three of the past seven days experienced that condition, so maple tree tappers like Greg Probst must be enjoying this. Here’s the highs and lows from Feb. 12 to 18.

Ada schools closed Wednesday, Feb. 20

Ada schools have cancelled classed today, Wednesday, Feb. 20, according to Meri Skilliter, superintendent.

The school went on a two-hour delay at 5:35 a.m. and cancelled for the day at 7:38 a.m., according to Ohio Alerts.

Help beautify downtown Ada

Become a hanging flower basket sponsor

The village of Ada invites residents to consider being a hanging flower basket sponsor this year, according to Jami Hall, village administrator.

The village’s annual tradition of hanging flower baskets on Main Street has caught on and is now part of the downtown beautification of Ada. The program started in 2014.

Twenty-eight hanging baskets will go up this spring planted with petunias provided by Stratton Greenhouses, Bluffton.

The cost to sponsor one basket is $125. That covers the planting, dirt and fertilizer. The village handles the watering of the plants.

Pack The Pound night on Friday when Ada plays Bluffton

It's the first-ever Ada Bulldogs boys' basketball "Pack The Pound" Night on Friday.

One lucky student will win a chance to shoot a half-court shot for a $500 gift card, and 10 lucky students will win a free Under Armour t-shirt if dressed in our "White Out" theme.

Also, two adult fans if dressed in our "White Out" theme will win a free Ada Athletic Department Under Armour hoody or pullover.

Ada faces Bluffton Pirates and its Senior Night.

Calamity days taken their toll to school year

Calamity days have taken their toll during this year’s Ada school year. Here’s an update on make-up plans from Meri Skilliter, Ada superintendent.

“We will have a regular instructional day this Friday, Feb. 15, in lieu of a previously scheduled professional development day to make up one day. 

“We will go to school March 4-8, rather than having our spring break that week.  That week was designated to absorb any additional calamity days over 5. 

“We currently have 6 to make up, so those are the six days we will use.  Any additional days will be added to the end of the school year.”
