One of the most outstanding perennial plants in Ada is now in full bloom at the home of Jim and Jean Neiswander.

The 5-year-old, 7-foot-tall pink elephant hibiscus is located at the Neiswander home on the corner of North Johnson and East Montford.

While taking the picture, an Ada mailman passed by saying that overtime he has covered all of Ada and, he, too, judges the hibiscus as the prettiest plant in town.

Hardy hibiscus are easy to raise here, coming in short, medium, and tall heights, as well as in a multitude of colors, some bright, some soft pastels.

The Ada schools welcome nine new staff members for the 2015-16 school year, according to the Ada Bulldogs Facebook page.

The Ada Kiwanis Club met on Tuesday August 11th in the Dean’s Heritage Room, McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, and Ada.

In business:
-Members heard an updated financial report from Treasurer Bryan Marshall.

-Secretary Bill Fuller reported that Kiwanis international had informed the club of an increase in dues and fees beginning with the 2015-2016 administrative year.

-A discussion was held concerning funding for the Hardin County Fair 4-H livestock auction. 

-The club agreed to replace a tree in War Memorial Park dedicated in memory of Everett Ludwig.

The Hardin County Hootenannies met at Riley Fleece​'s farm. 

President Isaac Davis opened the meeting by asking Riley to lead the American Pledge and Levi Beiler to start the 4-H pledge.  Old business was double checking our livestock fair entries. 

Also, Faith Holbrook announced the theme for the fair booth is "Hootenannies - Takin' to the Road, Traveling Far with 4-H!" and she gave a reminder to get a 5x7 face photo of each member to put into our booth's cars by the next meeting.

That summertime ritual, the yard sale, reached its seasonal zenith with yesterday's start of the three-day, annual Lincoln Highway Main Street Across America Buy-Way Yard Sale. Fourteen businesses and homeowners in the village of Ada are participating this year, including this reporter.

It feels awkward and liberating to have your junk, formerly known as treasures, laid out on the front lawn under a pale blue sky.

Tom Lehman, Ada Troop 124 scoutmaster, is retiring from his position after decades of service, according to Angie Butterfield, troop committee secretary.

"We will be recognizing him during our Court of Honor at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at the Ada Park at the Scout house located in the southeast corner.
