Icon dog of the week - Princess

Meet Icon Dog of the Week, Princess. She is available for adoption on Wednesday, May 9. Can you give Princess her forever home?

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

It's all about a 15-month-old Ada girl

Biker Strong Association benefit here May 19

By Monty Siekerman
The Biker Strong Association will help Azraella, a 15-month-old child who lives in Ada and is suffering from cancer, with a benefit on Saturday, May 19, at the Ada VFW. And, you don’t have to have a motorcycle to help.

Azraella, the daughter of Keara Downing, is suffering from ALL, acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She has been treated in Toledo since her diagnosis last October. She is in the high risk group for this type of cancer.

She and her mother plan to attend the benefit, but that depends on the child’s condition in mid -May. In any case, a majority of her family will be on hand.

Reading carnival has Star War theme

Story and photo by Monty Siekerman
Youngsters love a carnival and parents and teachers love one that encourages reading.

The Ada Academic Boosters sponsor a carnival each year in the '86 Gym, as they did on Friday for grades K-5. Children earn tickets by meeting reading goals, and can spend them on games, popcorn, raffle items and, a popular one, throwing a wet sponge at a teacher.

Parent volunteers help, led this year by cochair Amber Simon and Lori Poling.

All about zentangle art

One of many art works on display in the school

By Monty Siekerman
No matter how much one experiences life, how many degrees one has, or how many Van Gogh’s one has seen, a fourth grader just might teach you something new about a subject...in this case art.

Brea Lyle has learned a little something about the zentangle method of art.

Here, she poses with her art teacher Kristie Steiner with her zentangle piece made from a marker and copy of a photograph of her.

Zentangle is described as relaxing, fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. She learned that from her elementary art teacher, Miss Steiner, now in her fourth year of teaching at Ada Schools.
