Men's cross country: ONU ranked nationally in pre-season poll

The Ohio Northern men's cross country team is ranked No. 33 in the preseason United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III poll on Wednesday.

The Polar Bears received 35 points in the voting after being unranked in the final 2015 poll.

ONU was ranked as high as No. 19 last season, in which they won the OAC Championships title and finished with a 138-9 record.

North Central (Ill.) in the top spot with 275 points and five first place votes, Geneseo State (N.Y.) is second with 270 points and the two first place votes and Williams (Mass.) is third with 268 points and the final first place vote.

Get ready for Zumba - first class Sept. 15

A Zumba class will be offered this fall and is held at First United Methodist Church, Ada.

The first class is from 5:45 to 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, and is held in the Wesley Fellowship Hall.

Class instructors are Hillary Holmes and Jami Dellifield. Cost is $5 per class. Persons with questions contact Holme at 419-889-5368.

Bulldog boys stomp Old Fort

OLD FORT - Seven different Bulldog boys scored goals as the visiting Ada soccer team hammered Old Fort 11-4 Thursday evening.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the North Central Ohio Soccer Association with the lopsided victory.

Logan Williams paced the explosive Ada offense with three goals and one assist. The Bulldogs have tallied nine or more goals in three of their five matches this year.

Terry Sheridan contributed one goal and four assists. Chris Reyes tallied two goals and passed out one assist while Nate Allen netted a pair of goals.

ADA - The visiting Lima Central Cathoic girls tennis squad  defeated the Ada girls team 4-1 at the park courts Wednesday evening.

The defeat lowered the Lady Bulldog season record to 3-5.

The duo of Samantha Crawford and Shelby Higgins teamed up to post the lone Ada win at second doubles in a tiebreaker.

Biography by Michael Loughlin examines life of French historical figure

Ohio Northern University Professor of History Michael B. Loughlin recently published a political biography of the infamous French socialist and later national socialist Gustave Hervé.

Loughlin’s volume is titled “From Revolutionary Theater to Reactionary Litanies: Gustave Hervé (1871-1944) at the Extremes of the French Third Republic” (New York, Frankfurt, Paris, Zurich, etc.:Peter Lang Company, December 2015).

“Hervé was the most notorious French antimilitarist in the years before World War I, by which time he gradually had transformed into a major chauvinist and supporter of the French war effort,” Loughlin explained.
