Meet Mickie, Icon's dog of the week

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.
Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

Like music?

You’ll love the entertainment at this Saturday’s Ada Harvest and Herb Festival. The performance stage is in the Cole Motor parking lot. All entertainment is free.

It starts with a guitar duo, hands off to a steel drum band and finishes with an America’s Got Talent contestant.

But first, it begins with the singing of The National Anthem by Haley Crouse, Ada High School graduate. Following Crouse, the 2016 Harvest and Herb Festival queen will be crowned.

Ada rolls out its red carpet on Saturday, Sept. 17, for the 31st annual Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival, according to David Dellifield, this year’s festival director.

The outdoor festival is among the largest crafts festivals in northwestern Ohio, featuring over 150 booths.

Highlights:
• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. – over 150 craft booths on Main Street
• 9 a.m. - ceremony in depot park for the renovated railroad caboose
• 10 a.m. – parade (from Ada school down Main Street to College)
    (parade forms at 9 a.m. at the Ada school)

Ada remembers Sept. 11 with impressive ceremony at fire station

Ada observed the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States with a ceremony at the Ada-Liberty Township Fire Department.

During the ceremony a flag was presented to the fire department. The flag had flown over Camp Five, Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Freedom on July 4 of this year.

Harvest and Herb queen candidates

Five Ada High School seniors are candidates and one will be crowned Ada Harvest and Herb Festival queen. The festival is Saturday. You'll see the candidates in the parade and at noon the queen will be announced. High-octane Ada offense blast LCC 35-13

The high-octane Ada offense returned to form last Saturday afternoon as the Bulldogs traveled to Lima Stadium and pummeled former league rival LCC, 35-13.

Bulldog receiver Chase Sumner had a career day, snagging 14 receptions for 174 yards and 2 scores, helping to keep the Thunderbirds winless for the year. The Bulldog victory moves them to 2-1 on the season, ranking sixth in the division 7, region 28 computer polls.
