Cardinals knock off Ada in sectional 1st round

COLDWATER - The Ada boys basketball team endured a cold shooting night and fell to New Bremen 65-31 in Div. IV first round sectional action Tuesday night at Coldwater.

 

With their sixth consecutive defeat, Ada ended its season with a record of 4-19. Meanwhile, the Cardinals snapped a nine-game losing skid and improved to 2-21 following the win.

 

The Cards advance to face second-seeded Midwest Athletic Conference rival Fort Recovery (15-7, 6-3 MAC) in the second round Friday, March 3 at approximately 8 p.m. in Coldwater.

 

Afgahanistan law students coming to ONU in April

Part of $2 million grant from U.S. State Department

Last fall, the Ohio Northern University Center for Democratic Governance and Rule of Law received a $2 million grant from the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs of the U.S. Department of State to organize and administer the Afghanistan Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Program for 2017 and 2018.

On Jan. 19-25, more than 90 Afghan law students and 18 faculty coaches gathered in Kabul, Afghanistan, to participate in the Jessup competition.

3 ONU wrestlers named All-OAC

Three Ohio Northern wrestlers were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference in wrestling for the 2016-17 season on voting conducted by the league's seven head coaches.

Sophomore Gavin Nelson (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Nate Barcaskey (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) were named First Team All-Conference and junior Seth Meyer(Defiance) was a Second Team All-OAC selection.

The Polar Bears finished the season with an 11-4 record and were third in the OAC with a 4-2 league mark under 29th-year head coach Ron Beaschler.

Nelson was 23-12 at 157 pounds on the season and posted a 5-1 record in the OAC regular season matches.

ONU men's track now nationally ranked

The Ohio Northern men's track and field team moved to No. 31 in the sixth weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association power rankings.

The Polar Bears are 47-16 overall.

Wis.-LaCrosse came in at No. 1 with 135.61 points while Wis.-Whitewater took second place with 113.55 points

Book fair

Gunner Thies, 3rd grader at Ada, checks out the selection of colorful books at the school's book fair. The fair is underway this week in the media center. Teachers may purchase books at half price for their classroom. Proceeds from the sales support the school library. A book fair is held each fall and spring.
