Betty Wirt operated the "Cubby Hole" in Ada

Betty Kathryn Wirt, 87, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 9:05 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

She was born on April 2, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pa., to William and Elizabeth (Hasson) Knox and they preceded her in death. On May 15, 1946 she married Merle E. Wirt and he died on November 1, 2010.

Connie Gross was retired from Wilson Sporting Goods

Connie Sue Gross, 70, died on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 1:48 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health Systems, Lima.

She was born on October 28, 1943 in Steven Branch, Ky., to James and Pauline (VanHoose) Phillips and they preceded her in death. On July 1, 1961 she married Marion Gross, Jr. and he survives in Alger.

Connie retired after 12 years from Wilson Sporting Goods of Ada, where she worked as a sewer. She operated the Alger Variety Store for 7 years. She was an active member of the Auglaize Free United Baptist Church, Maysville.

Joyce Wymer, 1957-2014

Joyce Ann Wymer, 56, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 p.m. at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

She was born on October 15, 1957 in Lima to E. Jack and Marilyn (Mason) Goldsmith. Her father preceded her in death and her mother survives in Wapakoneta. On June 15, 1974, she married B. Keith Wymer and he survives in Alger.

Joyce was an LPN at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima for eight years. She previously worked at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

Cecil Hale, 1926-2014

Cecil Hale, 88, died on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Coshocton Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Coshocton, Ohio.

He was born on February 12, 1926 in Alphoretta, Kentucky to John Hale and Eva (Whitaker) Hale Patton and they preceded him in death. On October 18, 1952, he married Berneice Cornwell and she preceded him in death on January 9, 2003.

Freda Neiswander, 108, was born in Ada in 1906

Freda M. “Fritz” Neiswander, 108, formerly of Adrian, Mich., died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014.
She was born Jan. 4, 1906, in Ada, Ohio, the seventh of 16 children of Alfred and Adele (Grant) Criblez, and was raised on the family farm in Bluffton, Ohio.

She was married to Eugene C. Neiswander for 67 years, and he preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a graduate of Findlay College and worked at Michigan Central Railroad in Detroit before moving to Adrian where she was a manager at the Girls Training School.She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Adrian.

Marilyn Sue Collins was retired as elementary teacher's aide at Hardin Northern

Marilyn Sue Collins, 82, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at 1:25 a.m. at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Arlington, Ohio.

She was born on December 1, 1931 in Lima, Ohio to Ernest and Madge (Kanawal) Schaaf, who preceded her in death. On June 3, 1956, she married Edward L. Collins and he survives in Forest, Ohio.

Marilyn was a homemaker and retired in 1984 from Hardin Northern Schools where she worked as an elementary school teacher's aide. She was a 1949 graduate of Lima Senior High School. She was an avid gardener and loved to crochet. Marilyn was an artist, played the piano and loved reading.
