Herbert Spallinger worked at Superior Coach for 23 years

Retired from Occidental Chemical/Durez, Kenton

Herbert D. Spallinger, 82, died on Monday, March 16, 2020, at 11:24 a.m. at his residence in Ada.

He was born on June 23, 1937, in Columbus Grove, Ohio, to the late Richard and Lelia (Beam) Spallinger.  On May 20, 1956, Herbert married Wilma L. Knell and she preceded him in death on June 25, 2018.

Herbert worked at Superior Coach/Sheller Globe for 23 years in Quality Control.  He then retired from Occidental Chemical/Durez of Kenton and then worked at Liberty National Bank. Herbert was a member of the Ohio National Guard.  He previously attended the Ada First United Methodist Church.

Jeffrey Kohi 1962 - 2020

Jeffrey B. Kohli, 57, died March 11, 2020 at his residence. Jeffrey was born July 9, 1962, in Findlay to the late Harold and Alice (Thompson) Kohli. On April 27, 1996, he married Corrine Townsend Kohli who survives. 

Jeffrey graduated from Bluffton High School. He worked for Equity Meats in North Baltimore. Jeffrey was a member of True Word Tabernacle in Bluffton.  

Survivors also include three children, Daniel Kohli, Anna Kohli, Jacob Kohli all of Mt. Cory; two brothers, Robert Kohli of Continental, Richard (Cathy) Kohli of Montross, Virginia; and a sister, Debra (Michael) Bish of Ada.

Betty Hall worked at the Northern Freeze of Ada

Betty L. Hall, 82, died on Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at 12:35 p.m. at the Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton, surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 24, 1937, in Alger, Ohio, to the late Marion and Charlotte (Stanley) Gross, Sr.  On Nov. 4, 1955, Betty married Lyle “Ned” Hall and he preceded her in death on May 14, 2016.

Betty worked as a waitress in food service. She previously worked at the Northern Freeze of Ada.

Dr. Freed memorial service, celebration of life is Saturday

In English Chapel on ONU campus

A memorial service and celebration of life for Dr. DeBow Freed, President Emeritus of Ohio Northern University, will be held at the English Chapel on the ONU campus at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 7.

There will be a display of mementos in the chapel, and a video on his life of service and the Freed years at Ohio Northern will be shown in the chapel at 10 a.m.

A buffet lunch will be served in McIntosh Center following the service. The videos on his life of service and the Freed years at ONU will also be shown during the buffet lunch.  All are invited to attend.

Hayward Reynolds was an attorney and professor of law at ONU

Hayward D. Reynolds, 89, died on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, at 5:40 p.m. at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1930, in Hammond, Indiana, to the late Raymon and Gladys (Dixon) Reynolds. On Sept. 18, 1954 Hayward married Gay Marie Seme and she preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 2004.

Hayward was an attorney and a Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University, Capital University and the University of South Florida.  He received his Bachelor and Juris Doctorate from Indiana University. He was a prolific reader. Hayward was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana Hoosier basketball fan.

Dr. Wesley Clarke was a former ONU board of trustees member

He held an honorary doctorate from ONU, will be buried in Ada

Dr. Wesley Clarke, 92, died on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at 9:54 a.m. at the Green Hills Community, West Liberty.

He was born on April 30, 1927, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Frank and Sarah Ellen (Thawley) Clarke.  On Sept. 8, 1950 Wesley married Reva L. (Marling) Clarke and she preceded him in death on July 3, 2005.

Wesley retired from the United Methodist Church, where he was served as a minister. 

Wesley graduated from Amanda High School in 1945 and then Ohio Northern University in 1950.  He was called into the ministry and then attended Garrett Biblical Institute graduating in 1953.
