The annual haunting of Ada’s sidewalks takes place next Thursday! On Oct. 31, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 p.m., the children of Ada are invited to bring out their best costumes for the Village’s trick or treat.
Trick or treat is a fun filled evening for many in the community. Whether it’s the handing out of candy, the collection of candy, or just seeing the change in costumes from year to year, there is something for many to enjoy.
We want to encourage everyone to enjoy the festivities safely. Here are a few tips to remember:
• Stay visible! Use glow light sticks or reflective tape to accent your ghoulish outfit.
The Department of Energy has designated October as National Energy Awareness Month, and everyone can take an active part in becoming more aware of immediate energy usage.
It can be easy for many of us to see the financial impact of weatherizing our own homes, but the impact is much larger than that. For example, according to a 2011 report from the Department of Energy in 2011, weatherization decreases national energy consumption by the equivalent of 24.1 million barrels of oil annually.
As a service to residents, the Village will once again be picking up leaves that have been raked by residents. More details will be forthcoming in the October 31 issue of the Village Voice.
For now, the Village wants to let you know that the annual leaf pick up flyers will once again be mailed with the September water bills. Those bills are scheduled to be mailed by September 28.
The first day for 2013 leaf pick up is scheduled for November 4, weather permitting.

Ada is the place to be this weekend! Saturday, Main Street comes alive the same way it does every September – the Harvest and Herb Festival hits the street.
This Saturday is also Family Day at ONU, and ONU is encouraging family members to visit the community of Ada as part of the festivities. We’re not kidding; Ada is the place to be!
This weekend is a great time to show some of your Ada Pride! Please help us keep our community looking great. If you see trash on sidewalks, please pick it up and place it in the appropriate trash receptacle. If the sunshine prompts you to mow, make sure your grass clippings are not on the sidewalks or in the streets.
If you have left your garbage or recycling tote out in the tree lawn area, or near the road, a day or two too long, you may have received a warning notice from the Villlage.
Per Codified Ordinance 955.10 and 955.11, the Village may remove your totes from the tree lawn area if they are left out until the Friday after garbage pickup, and charge you for the removal.
The Village sends a warning notice to give you a chance to keep your totes pulled back from the street. If you have repeat offenses, the Village will charge you $20 for the tote removal, a charge which appears on your water bill.
