Liberty National Bank approves Welcome Home Grant

Ronald L. Zimmerly, Jr., President and CEO of Liberty National Bank, recently announced the bank’s participation in the Welcome Home Program, which is a grant sponsored by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati.

The Welcome Home Program was designed to assist eligible homeowners with down payment or closing costs when purchasing or buying a home.

The Welcome Home Program provides up to $5,000 in grant money for eligible homeowners and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Welcome Home funds will be available starting March 1, 2013, and will end when the money is no longer available. 

Women's basketball moves up to No. 3 in USA Today coaches poll

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team moved up to a season high ranking of No. 3 in the USA Today Sports Dvision III Top 25 Coaches Poll and remained No. 4 in the D3hoops.com poll.

In the USA Today Sports poll, Northern received 177 points, which was 14 more than last week.

DePauw (Ind.) remained No. 1 with 200 points, followed by Hope (Mich.) with 192 points and ONU with 177 points.

The Polar Bears received 537 points in the D3hoops.com poll, which was 15 more than they received in last weeks poll.

Joanna Snyder named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team

Senior women's basketball player Joanna Snyder has been named to the Division III Women's Basketball Capital One Academic All-America First Team in voting done by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This is the first national recognition for Snyder, as she has been named Academic All-Region the past two seasons.

The mathematics and education double major is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.5 ppg and in rebounding at 6.0 rpg.

On February 13, Snyder became the 11th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Horstman's career-high 30 points leads men's basketball past Heidelberg in first round of OAC Tournament

Junior Jared Horstman scored a career-high 30 points to lead Ohio Northern to a 79-71 victory over Heidelberg in the First Round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Monday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The sixth-seeded Polar Bears improve to 13-13 on the season, while the seventh-seeded Student Princes end their season with an 11-15 mark.

Ohio Northern will travel to third-seeded Wilmington for a Second Round contest Tuesday at 8 pm.

Horstman had a dominating night, scoring 30 points, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and a nabbing a team-best four steals.

ONU to present Distinguished Lecturer in Plasma Physics

Dr. Steven Spangler, professor of astronomy and physics at the University of Iowa, will be the Ohio Northern University Distinguished Lecturer of Plasma Physics in room 107 in the Meyer Hall of Science on Monday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m.

The Distinguished Lecturer of Plasma Physics Series is intended to share with the larger scientific community the exciting recent advances in plasma physics. The event is free and open to the public.

Spangler’s lecture will focus on the Sun in the year of solar maximum. He will describe various solar phenomena, such as solar flares and coronal mass ejections, that cause problems on the Earth.
