What's happening in Ada in May and June? Check the CIC calendar

What's going on in Ada in May and June? More than 50 events, in fact, are on the Ada Community Improvement Corp. (CIC) calendar, which covers the next 60 days.

The calendar is compiled by The Ada Icon and sent to the village office for e-mail distribution. A copy is also available as a printer-friendly attachment at the bottom of this story.

The calendar includes:

• Items of interest to the entire community
• Ada school events
• Ada Public Library events
• Ohio Northern University events
• Public meetings
• Major events later in 2013
• Some general Hardin County events

Two Ada HS students attend Kiwanis Key Leadership program

The Ada Kiwanis Club sponsored two Ada students, Shelby Hazelton and Mackenzie Wills, to the Ohio Kiwanis Key Leader program recently. The event was held at Recreations Unlimited in Ashley, Ohio.

Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadership-development experience.

A Key Leader will learn the most important lesson of leadership—it comes from helping others succeed.

Fire levy

A Liberty Township fire levy is on Tuesday's local ballot. Polls are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

First United Methodist baked goods-toy sale May 11

The Ada First United Methodist Church kids will hold a bake goods and toy sale from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 11. The event is at the Liberty National Bank and future church site. 

Proceeds will go toward the fund to build the congregation's new church building.

ONU undergraduate commencement on May 12

 

Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2013 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony in the Sports Center on Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. in the Sports Center. About 550 students will be awarded degrees.

Robert Manning, Mars Exploration Program chief engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., will address the graduating students as the guest speaker and receive an honorary degree from the University. Oscar J. and Judith D. (Jacobs) Mifsud also will receive honorary degrees.

Courtney Hetrick, graduating electrical engineering major from Frazeysburg, Ohio, will serve as the student speaker.
