First-ever official tar and feathering in Ada - it wasn't pretty

Librarians were tarred and feathered in Ada on Thursday afternoon as part of the summer reading program's conclusion.

Natalie Walton (left) and Amanda Bennett suffered being covered with ice cream, whipped cream, syrup, cherries and TP, all in fun, to encourage reading among youth.

The day's activities began with a free swim at the pool for kids, then a picnic.

Later, there were a couple of librarians who could have used a free swim, as well...before the ants found them. (Monty Siekerman photo)

Annette Stuckey’s Raspberry Buttermilk Pie

Serves 8

1 1/2 cups buttermilk
3/4  cup sugar
1/2  cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
1/4  cup all-purpose flour
5  large egg yolks
1  teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4  teaspoon kosher salt
9-inch basic flaky piecrust, parbaked
1/3  cup raspberry jam
1/4  cup toasted sliced almonds

It's Bingo in Ada every Thursday night in July

Ada Bingo plays every Thursday at the Alumni N-men’s Building in downtown Ada in July.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Bingo begins at 6:55 p.m. Ada Bingo uses new, radio-controlled electronic machines, as well as, traditional paper packages. Proceeds from Ada Bingo benefits the Ada Lion's Club, Ada Music Boosters and the Ada-Liberty Volunteer Fire Department

And, on the third Thursday of each month, the special Bonus Nights continue at Ada Bingo.

These hugely popular Bingo Bonus Nights are held on the third Thursday of each month.

Kiwanis and Rotary hold joint meeting at park

The Ada Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs held a joint meeting at noon on June 30, at War Memorial Park, Ada.

Those attending enjoyed a delicious picnic-style lunch and despite the persistent rain, a good time was had by all. Ada Kiwanians Sandy Neely, Bruce Neely, Harold Friesner and Marilyn Green were thanked for their excellent food preparation.

During a time of fellowship, Ada Kiwanis President John Berg engaged members of the two clubs in some friendly games of trivia.
