Welcome to the Icon's newest feature - Once Upon A Time in Ada

The Icon thanks Lee Crouse, collector of interesting Ada facts, for providing us with a new feature. 

We call it "Once Upon A Time In Ada." Lee will provide us with facts, details, information and sometimes oddities about the town we call home.

John Hohn retirement event Dec. 18

John Hohn, director of economic development for Hardin County, will be honored at an open house retirement party later this week.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 18, at the Hardin County Chamber and Business Alliance, 225 S. Detroit St., Kenton. A noon lunch is open for persons who rsvp to 419-673-4131.

Joyce Moore 1935-2015

Joyce R. Moore, 79, died on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015 at 5:45 a.m. at Richland Manor Nursing Home, Bluffton.          

She was born on Dec. 26, 1935, in Lima, Ohio, to William D. and Fern (Ludwig) May who preceded her in death. On Nov. 17, 1979, she married Larry Scott Moore who survives in Ada.        

Joyce retired from Honda of Marysville after working for 11 years as a nurse. She previously worked at Cambridge State Hospital and several local nursing homes.   

Also surviving is a daughter, Debra (Nick) DeFalco of Freehale, NJ and two grandchildren.      There will be no services it was her wish to be cremated.       

Western Ohio Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association meet Dec. 15

The December meeting of the Western Ohio Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association will take place on Tuesday, Dec, 15 in Van Wert. 

Members and guests will dine at Black Angus on Main, 282 E. Main Street (Lincoln Highway) at 6 p.m.

At 7 p.m., a brief business meeting will take place. Afterwards, members and guests are welcome and encouraged to share personal Christmas memories, stories, special readings or decorations.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

ONU and village host Tree Commission Academy

ONU and the Village of Ada hosted a Tree Commission Academy on Wednesday and Thursday at the Mathile Center.

From left are Mike Hubbell, Steph Miller, Cheryl Geer and Rob Mix. All are members of the Ada tree commission, except Steph who is regional urban forester and who led the sessions.

Twelve members of tree commissions from five northwest Ohio communities participated. Topics covered during the academy included tree biology, urban forestry, ordinances, marketing, and scheduling.
