No swimming, but joggers in full force in January

How quickly winter weather changes in Ada.

As we post this photo story temperatures are decent. But not so on Saturday. (Hope you didn't touch your tongue on the swimming pool chain fence.)

Ken Collins braved the cold on Saturday morning when things were windy - check the flags blowing in the wind - and about 27 degrees outside.

His photos show why no one is swimming in January or spending much time in the Ada Memorial Park playground.

Despite the winter conditions,  a group of joggers were out in full force.

April 1973 a vote described as cast “for the benefit of the children in the district” was one of five stands taken by Ada School Board members which signaled the district’s unanimous decision to join the newly formed Apollo Joint Vocational School District.

The vote, taken at a special Board meeting, came after voters in Elida, Bath, Shawnee and Wapakoneta approved a 2.25 mill, 10 year levy to construct, equip and maintain the JVS facility.

‘Cocktail Hour: The Show’ on Freed Center stage Saturday and Sunday

Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present New York City’s Ballets with a Twist, which will perform “Cocktail Hour: The Show” on Saturday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m.

Created by artistic director and choreographer Marilyn Klaus, “Cocktail Hour” reinvents the glamour and excitement of classic entertainment with an original mix of charismatic choreography, intoxicating music and exquisite costume design.

4th Annual Chocolate Bake-Off

FREE DIETSCH's CHOCOLATE!

Now that we have your attention: We'd like to announce that it's time for the Ada Public Library 4th Annual Chocolate Bake-off

The rules are this simple--there's only 1 rule:
Bake or make something that showcases chocolate as the main ingredient, and bring it to the Library on Wednesday, February 3rd, by 5:45p.m. 

Local celebrity judges will decide who's mastered the art of chocolate and the winner will take home 1lb of Dietsch's Chocolates!

The event is FREE and open to all--come and enjoy sampling a variety of desserts!

The pyramids of Ada - and they all fall down (or, the catch)

There's more to this photo than meets the eye. After all, there's a "catch" to every story. This one has happy ending.

While pyramids are known to be mute, cheerleading pyramids are another matter. The Icon posted this photo Sunday night.

Above, the guys and gals who cheer for the ONU men's basketball team built a tall human pyramid during a timeout in the game.

Below, well, that's the catch.

13 points for Konner Baker

Ada's Konner Baker (#14) scored 13 points for the ONU Polar Bears in their win over Capital on Saturday afternoon in Ada.

Baker is a starter for the team which now has a 7-10 overall, 4-6 OAC record.

Baker is a 6-3 junior forward. Northern won 91-87. It was anybody's game to win until the Polar Bears scored in the last 20 seconds to cinch the game. (Monty Siekerman photo)
