ONU baseball ends season with win, has a winning season

Sophomores Luke Klinehoffer (Zanesville/John Glenn) and Austin Frey (Peoria, Az./Sunrise Mountain) led the Ohio Northern baseball team to its fourth consecutive winning season with a 15-3 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday evening at the OSU Lima Baseball Field.

The Polar Bears improve to 21-17 overall, while the Bishops fall to 14-23.

Highest national ranking ever for ONU women's track and field

The Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team is ranked the highest it has ever been ranked in the fifth weekly United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association power rankings, released Tuesday, May 2.

The Polar Bears (78-4 overall) received 82.57 points in the rankings and are ranked No. 8 in the rankings.

Washington (Mo.) held the top spot with 204.74 points, while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Cal.) came in second with 124.57 points and Williams (Mass.) rounded out the top-3 with 118.44 points.

D.A.R.E. program schedule

DARE presentations for  the  fifth grade students at Ada Schools will be held, as follows:

Thursday, May 4 from 2:45-3:15 in the 86 gymnasium

Thursday, May 11 from 2:45-3:15 in the school auditorium

Thursday, May 18 from 2:45-3:15 in the school auditorium

Stratton Greenhouses, 9915 Lincoln Highway, holds a spring open house Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6-7, according to Susie Stratton.

The open house includes drawings, food and special offers.

Stratton's offers an entire line of vegetables, proven winner plants, wave petunias, trees and shrubs.

Greenhouse hours are:
Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Open Sundays in May, noon to 5 p.m.

56th annual Ada Invitational track meet on Saturday

16 high school teams will compete

Ada High School will host the 56th Ada Invitational Track meet on Saturday, May 6, at War Memorial Stadium.

There are 16 schools competing: Ada, Allen East, Bath, Bluffton, Carey, Cory- Rawson, Hardin Northern, Delphos Jefferson, Kenton, Lima Central Catholic, Mc Comb, Mohawk, New Knoxville, Spencerville, Temple Christian and Van Wert.

Last year’s boys' champion were Van Wert and runner-up Spencerville, respectively. Last year’s girls' champion and runner-up were Van Wert and Ada, respectively.

Field events will start at 9 a.m. with the running prelims to begin at 10 a.m.

Extensive damage

Fire extensively damaged a two-story home at 409 N. Main early Monday afternoon. No one was injured. The house, owned by Ben Bright, had two apartments in it with at least three people living there. More information and more photos are below. (Monty Siekerman photo)
