Chinese New Year program for kids at the Ada Public Library

The Chinese New Year, one of the most important of Chinese holidays, officially begins Feb. 10 but it's being ushered in early at the Ada Public Library.

On Monday, Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. the Ada Public Library will host the ONU Asian American Student Union as they present "The Red Dragon", a performance for grades K through 5 and open to all.  The performers will explain about the tradition and it's significance. 

Children will receive a traditional Chinese New Year gift.  Activities will include origami and Korean calligraphy.  

 

 

Apollo kicks off Career-Tech Ed Month on Jan. 29

Apollo Career Center will hold its first-everl Apollopalooza on Jan. 29, 5:30-7 p.m., to kick-off National Career and Technical Education Month, which runs through February.

Apollopalooza will showcase both the high school and adult education programs. The event is free and open to the public.

“Because Apollo is not a traditional high school or college, and because adults and high school students are being trained during the day and evening, Apollo is opening up the building, for the public to see and experience what Apollo students learn everyday,” said Dana Dukes Norton, community relations liaison.

Ada resident part of award winning "Big River" musical at Van Wert Civic Theater now through Feb. 9

The Van Wert Civic Theatre is presenting the Tony Award winning musical Big River, a country and bluegrass musical adaptation of Mark Twain's classic 1884 novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn".

The show is directed by Jerry  Zimmerman and features Ada dramatist Nancy Williams Shuffle in the role of Mary Jane Wilkes.  

The musical won numerous Tony awards, including for both music and score.

Big River is running Thursday through Saturday on the following dates:
Jan. 31, Feb. 1, 2, 3 and Feb. 7, 8, 9.

The Thursday through Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., with a matinee on Sunday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m.

Ada Bingo set for Thursdays in February

Ada Bingo plays every Thursday at the Alumni N-men’s building in downtown Ada.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; Bingo begins at 6:55 p.m.

Ada Bingo uses new, radio-controlled electronic machines, as well as, traditional paper
packages.

Proceeds from Ada Bingo benefits the Ada Lion's Club and Ada Music
Boosters.

Saturday is final day to sign up for spring youth soccer

There's still time to sign up for spring soccer, but hurry. The final sign-up is from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Restore Community Center, 210 N. Main St.

If you child has not previously planned with the Ada Soccer organization please bring a birth certificate with you.

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters showing at Ada Theatre starting Jan. 24

Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters will the showing at the Ada Theatre starting Thursday Jan. 24 and running thru Thursday, Feb. 7, according to James Curlis of the Theatre.  

In this spin on the fairy tale, Hansel & Gretel are now bounty hunters who track and kill witches all over the world. As the fabled Blood Moon approaches, the siblings encounter a new form of evil that might hold a secret to their past. (IMDb)

It's premier will be in 3D at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday.
