January and February meetings of the Ada chamber

RSVP Feb. 16 luncheon at the Inn at ONU

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the January Membership Meeting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19 at the Ada Public Library, 320 N. Main. Breakfast will be served at the meeting, according to Heather Cox, membership chairperson.

In February, the chamber meeting will be an Annual Meeting Luncheon at noon on Wednesday, February 16. This event will take place at the Inn at ONU. The price of the luncheon is $20 per person. For reservations, contact Deb Curlis at [email protected] or 419-788-9459. 

Music on vinyl beats out CDs in 2021

Year end 2021 reports include the news that music CD sales have lost to vinyl records for the first time in decades. According to music data provider MRC Data (https://mrcdatareports.com/mrc-data-2021-u-s-year-end-report/), vinyl album sales outpaced CDs for the first time in MRC Data history (since 1991).

The Icon contacted Ada’s Retro Music Ltd. for a local perspective. Owner Chad Smith explained that with new cars no longer providing CD players, the format is dying. In addition, CDs and their cases are relatively fragile items.

Jan. 19 deadline for new pesticide applicator class 

A class to help farmers prepare to become private pesticide applicators has been planned for January 26 at the Hardin County Extension office, 1021 West Lima Street, Kenton. In Ohio, pesticide applicators are required by law to have an Ohio Pesticide Applicators License in order to purchase and apply restricted-use chemicals. These pesticides include but are not limited to herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides.

The class will begin at 12:30 pm and end at 4:30 pm. There is a $30 registration fee which covers books for those enrolled.

Women's networking event scheduled

Area women have created a northwest Ohio chapter of WELD (Women for Economic and Leadership Development) and will host a virtual Coffee Chat on January 25 to introduce the organization to guests.

Circe Krout, an Edward Jones Financial Advisor in Ottawa and Amanda Riess of Clemans, Nelson & Associates, Inc. of Lima spoke with the Icon about their interest in networking with area women and the opportunities for enrichment provided by WELD.

Ada chamber elects new board members

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce elected new Board of Directors members at its December 2021 meeting and announced that it has reached its goal of attracting more than 100 members.

Gossman public auction includes record prices for tractors

Tractors sold at a recent Ada area public auction made record prices. The Gossman farm retirement auction held on December 10 included a Ford and a New Holland Tractor which each sold for new record auction prices. The 2000 New Holland 8670 with 3131 hours sold for $71,000.
