Apollo levy fundraiser on Oct. 6

On Saturday, Oct. 6, the Apollo Levy Committee will host a chicken barbecue and Corn Hole Tournament Fundraiser at Apollo.

Chicken Dinners will be sold and curbside pickup available from 11:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. in front of Apollo Career Center. Dinners are $7 each.
A Corn Hole Tournament will begin at noon.  Residents will also have the opportunity to drive a semi-truck at Apollo’s Truck Driving Academy for a donation throughout the day. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Apollo Levy Committee.

15 of September's 30 days were wet ones

How many times did you mow your yard in September? Probably more often than you thought you might.

That's because it rained 5.36 inches during September, according to Guy Verhoff, Icon weather observer. The normal average September rainfall is 2.95 inches.

Fifteen of September's 30 days had rain, or a trace of rain reported.

Otherwise, it was a "normal" September. The average temperature for the month was 63.5 degrees. The normal average September temperature was 63.7 degrees.

The high temperature reading was 86 degrees on Sept. 3 and Sept. 6. The low reading was 36 degrees on Sept. 24.

Earl Grigsby 1933-2012

Earl Grigsby, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at 12:57 p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

He was born June 7, 1933 in Hindman, Kentucky  to Timothy and Della (Sparkman) Grigsby and they are both are deceased.

He married Anas Anett Wireman on August 21, 1954 and she died November 20, 1989.
Earl was a self-employed truck driver.

Earl attended the Freewill Baptist Church in McGuffey, Ohio; he was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War; and he was a life member of the VFW Post #1275 of Lima.

No. 1 Mount Union tops ONU in Ohio Athletic Conference battle

No. 1-ranked Mount Union posted a 54-0 football victory over Ohio Northern at Saturday afternoon at Mount Union Stadium.

The Polar Bears fall to 1-3 overall and are 1-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the Purple Raiders improve to 4-0, 3-0.

Senior Tate Humphrey was 9-of-14 passing for 37 yards and junior Tyler Rue was 2 of 6 passing for 86 yards to lead the ONU offense.

No.19 Women's Soccer wins OAC opener 3-0 over Mount Union

The No. 19 Ohio Northern women's soccer team opened their OAC season successfully defeating Mount Union 3-0 at the ONU Soccer Field on Saturday.

With their first conference win of the year Ohio Northern women's soccer team moves to 6-0-3 overall and 1-0-0 in the OAC, while Mount Union is 6-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference.

ONU scored twice in the first half with the first goal coming from junior Sami Atkinson.

Senior Lindsey Gilchrist and Sophomore Kristina Klusek got the assist on the goal.

Freshman Alex Weirich knocked in a loose ball off of a corner kick to put ONU up 2-0.

Mac Church posts 39th career shutout as No. 13 Men's Soccer defeats Mount Union

he Ohio Northern men's soccer team started off OAC play with a 3-0 victory over Mount Union Saturday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

Ohio Northern moves to 10-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the OAC while Mount Union falls to 2-5-1, 0-1-0.

The scoring began in the ninth minute when senior Chris Matejka used a free kick to his advantage and netted his third goal of the season.

Then, in the 17th minute, senior Nate Bascom stole the ball from the Purple Raiders and beat the goalie to score his team high 12th goal of the season to put the Polar Bears up 2-0.
