Opal Armentrout 1922-2012

Opal Armentrout, age 90, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 2:45 PM at Kenton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kenton.

She was born on July 9, 1922, in McGuffey, Ohio to Frank and Cynthia (Rowe) Shepherd and they preceded her in death.

On July 30, 1941, she married Zenith "Wayne"Armentrout and he preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.

Opal had worked at North Electric in Kenton. She was a lifelong member of the McGuffey Church of Christ, where she had been a secretary, taught Bible School, and was a member of the ladies group. She loved to sew and crochet. She enjoyed woodworking with Wayne.

Ada small business Christmas open house Nov. 29 at The Depot

A Christmas open house featuring four Ada small businesses is planned from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 29, at The Depot, 110 Central Ave., Ada.

Features businesses are:

• Kelly Fetrow, Pretty Preserves
• Amy Mayden, Heaven Sent
• Lori Poling, LP Designs

The event offers an early chance at purchasing Christmas presents. Icon viewers are invited to attend and browse through a selection of handbags, jewelry, home decor items, soaps and more.

Registration underway for Sounds of Praise Children’s Choir Retreat

 

The Sounds of Praise Children’s Choir will hold an opening retreat for all interested singers in grades 3 – 8 on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from 12 – 7 p.m.  Singers will participate in rehearsals and movement sessions, and the day will culminate in a community concert at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge to participate in this event.

The retreat is designed to bring children together from various areas to prepare and share their vocal gifts with the community.  Registration will be held now through Jan. 4. 

Men's basketball falls to Defiance, 69-64

Junior Branden Rushton scored 15 points and sophomore Isaiah Roux added 10 points off the bench to lead the Ohio Northern men's basketball team in a 69-64 loss to area rival Defiance on Tuesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

Northern's record now stands at 2-1, while Defiance improves to 1-2.

Sophomore Adam Bair added 10 points for the Polar Bears.

Logan Wolfrum led the Yellow Jackets with a game high 20 points, while Ryan Hicks scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
