Five Polar Bears named Academic All-OAC in football

Five Ohio Northern student/athletes were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in football for 2012 in voting conducted by the league's 10 faculty advisors.

Senior Cullen Zelachowski, juniors Josh Bryan and Mike King and sophomores David Woolley and Sean Wolf were named Academic All-OAC.

Zelachowski is a three-year regular and a two year starter on the offensive line and is majoring in civil engineering.

A versatile player, Zelachowski started all 10 games this season and played four different positions. He started three times at left tackle, four times at left guard, once at right guard and twice at right tackle.

Eight named Academic All-OAC in men's soccer

Eight Ohio Northern men's soccer students/athletes were voted Academic All-OAC for the 2012 season in voting done by the league's 10 faculty advisors.

Senior Nate Bascom, Mac Church, and Austin Windsor, juniors Jeremy Barnes, Brett Bomba, Matt Fleming, Stephen Perkins and Ken Wachtel all earned selections for Northern.

Bascom earned his second straight Academic All-OAC selection. He was also named CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year and was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team.

Ada's ReStore collection site for Hardin's Operation Sandy

ReStore Community Center, Ada, is now a collection site for Hardin County Operation Sandy.

The Hardin County Mayors met last Thursday evening  to launch an effort called Hardin County Operation Sandy to collect items and cash to assist the victims of Hurricane Sandy.   Many individuals are still in need of basic supplies and we intend to send or deliver a truckload of materials to the East Coast.

ReStore is working with ISOH/IMPACT of Waterville, to ensure that the goods we send are appropriate and needed.  ISOH/IMPACT specifically requested that NO blankets, sleeping bags, or bottled water be included in this drive.

Ada swim team hosts breakfast fundraiser with Santa Dec. 9

The Ada Bulldogs Swim Team will be holding a breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, Dec. 9 from  7:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the Ada VFW Post.   As a special holiday treat, Santa will be present at the breakfast from 9:30 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The breakfast is all you can eat pancakes and sausage.  Tickets are $5.00 for eat in or carry out and children under 2 are free.

Winter Wonderland

Despite the fact that it's 63 degrees, Ada is still a Winter Wonderland. Here's the familiar greeting to viewers of the wonderland located in the Ada park.

1.1 inches of snow in October; none in November; What gives?

Guy Verhoff, Icon weather observer provided a summary of the November weather.  Here goes:

The high temprature in November was 68 degrees on Nov. 10 and Nov. 11. The low was 23 degrees on Nov. 5, Nov 8, Nov. 13, Nov. 14 and Nov. 15. The average November 2012 temperature was 40 degrees. The normal average for November is 40.4 degrees.

The average precipitation for November 2012 was 0.90 inches. The normal average precipitation is 2.83 inches.  Pretty darn dry.
