VAN BUREN – The Ada High School wrestling team gave a solid showing in their first Blanchard Valley Conference championship meet on February 15 at Van Buren.
Two Bulldog grapplers took individual titles as Ada finished sixth at the nine-team event.
Liberty-Benton captured the team crown by 16.5 points over second-place Elmwood. Cory-Rawson finished third. The Bulldogs tallied 82.5 points and ended up 15 points shy of fourth place.
Ada senior Landon Simon won the BVC crown at 215 lbs. Bulldog junior Silas Riblet was the league champion at 120 lbs.
Simon was seeded first at 215 and received a first round bye in his five-man draw. In the semifinals, he won by pin in 76 seconds. In the title bout, he pinned Liberty-Benton senior Isaac Sum in 2:20.
Riblet was the top seed at 120 and got a first round bye in his five-wrestler bracket. He won his semifinal bout by pin in 88 seconds. In the title round, he pinned Cory-Rawson senior Cory Smith in 1:42 to claim the crown.
Ada senior Liam Vieira finished second at the seven-man 144 lbs. division. He was seeded second and won his first match by a 16-1 technical fall. In the semis, he won by pin in just 45 seconds.
In the championship bout, Vieira lost to top-seeded Elmwood senior Peyton Schafer via pin.
Ada sophomore Easton Lane came in third at the eight-man heavyweight bracket. He won his first match via pin in 1:42. In the semis, he lost by a 9-0 majority decision.
In the third-place match, Lane triumphed by pin in just 87 seconds.
Freshman Ethan Carl took fourth at 175 lbs. He lost his first match by pin, then won 7-1 in the consolation semis. In the third-place bout, he lost by pin.
The Div. III sectionals are at Lima Saturday, Feb. 22.
