ONU English Department welcomes poet Jonterri Gadson

The Ohio Northern University Department of English completes its 2013 Fall Readers series with poet Jonterri Gadson in the Elzay Gallery of Art on Thursday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 p.m.
           
Along with ONU students Jessica Cogar, a junior creative writing major from Madison, Ohio, and Lucas Campbell, a junior creative writing major from Hilliard, Ohio, Gadson will read poetry at the event, which will be preceded by a reception at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Wreath-laying ceremony at ONU on Veterans Day

Ohio Northern University celebrated the contributions of American service members with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Henry Soloman Lehr statue adjacent to James F. Dicke Hall on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

The ceremony featured reflections concerning veterans from guest speaker Paul Hartman, ONU assistant professor of operations research and supply chain management, who served in the Air Force for 20 years before retiring from the Pentagon as a major in 2007.

The Color Guard of Ream McElroy VFW Post 9381 of Ada posted the colors, and Adriane Thompson Bradshaw, ONU vice president of student affairs, sang the national anthem.

Holiday crafts show Nov. 17 in Jenera

A holiday craft show is planned at the Jenera Town Hall later this month.

The event is from noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 17. The town hall is located at 1800 State Route 698, Jenera.

The how will have crafts, Christmas gifts, baked goods, raffles and other items. Proceeds from the event are being donated to a family to help with medical bills.

Ada book discussion groups focus on stories of C.S. Lewis, Markus Zusak and David Baldacci

Three books will be discussed this month and in early December by three different book discussion groups at the Ada Public Library. There’s still a chance to check out a copy of each of the books prior to the discussion.

Mustard Seed Cafe, Bluffton, now open Fridays and Saturdays until 8 p.m.

Now there’s a new place to eat dinner on weekends.  Mustard Seed Cafe, 562 N. Main St. Bluffton, has extended its hours and is now open Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.

Appetizers include shrimp cocktail, cold poached scallop with blueberry vinegar aioli, mussels steamed in beer, baked brie with cranberry compote, hummus with vegetables, olives & flatbread, continental plate for two and calamari meze.

Main courses are brisket burger and beans, strip steak, jambalaya, tortellini with gorgonzola crème, pork osso buco, shrimp scampi over pasta, chicken scaloppini and Caesar salad.
