ARLINGTON__The Ada High School baseball team hung close for most of the game but got no-hit in a 5-0 loss at Arlington on Friday, April 19.
The defeat dropped the Bulldog record to 0-8. The Red Devils improved to 2-9 with the win.
Arlington led 1-0 after the first inning, and added a run in the third to go ahead 2-0.
The Bulldogs held the Devils scoreless for the next two frames until the hosts pushed three more runs across in the home sixth.
“We had a few mistakes in the sixth,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “We need to play a complete game if we want to have a chance to win.”
Arlington out-hit Ada, 4-0. The Devils also stole 11 bases. The Bulldogs made two errors, while the Devils committed one miscue.
Neither team had an extra-base hit.
Ada junior shortstop Levi Green walked once and stole three bases. The Bulldogs had three others reach base after being hit by a pitch – Max Puerto, Mason Wibley and Andrew Allen.
Bulldog freshmen Allen and Wesley Mowery each drew a walk.
Sophomore starter Wibley pitched a solid five innings for Ada. He gave up four hits and three earned runs, while striking out three and walking two. He threw 85 pitches, 52 for strikes or in play.
Bulldog Brody Rister hurled a hitless inning of relief in the sixth, striking out one.
Arlington hurler Justin Rausch pitched the first 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. He allowed no hits or runs, walked three and struck out eight. He also hit three Bulldog batters. Rausch aided his own cause on offense with a single and a run.
Teammate Brady Griggs relieved and retired all four batters he faced, with one whiff. He also singled and scored a run.
Luke Metzger scored two runs for Arlington, and was one of five Devils who swiped two bases apiece. Jaxson Collins stroked an RBI single for the hosts.
The Bulldogs left five runners on base, while Arlington stranded only three.
Ada is slated to play at non-league foe Lima Central Catholic (4-4) Saturday at 11 a.m. LCC lost 7-5 at Allen East Friday. The Mustangs (6-4) beat rival Ada 12-2 Thursday.
The Bulldogs (0-3 NWC) host Delphos Jefferson (1-5, 1-2 NWC) in a league game Monday evening.
