Bulldog football looks to reach .500 at Bearcats

By Cort Reynolds

The Ada football team visits slumping league foe Spencerville on Friday, October 6, looking for their second straight win to reach .500 after week eight.

Ada is 1-2 at home this season and 2-2 on the road after the 28-0 win at Delphos Jefferson last Friday. The Bearcats are 0-3 at home and 0-4 on the road.

The Bearcats fell to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the NWC after losing 49-7 at Allen East in week seven. Spencerville has lost five in a row after getting off to a 2-0 start.

“Spencerville runs multiple offensive styles,” said Ada head coach Toby Smith. “From under center, to I to spread. Defensively, they run 3-4 and 3-3 formations.”

The Bearcats have scored just 23 total points during their five-game skid. They beat Ridgemont in their opener and defeated Paulding in week two before the five-game slide.

Ada could even their mark at 4-4 with a win, which would be their best week eight record since 2017. The Bulldogs went 7-4 that year and made their most recent playoff appearance.

Spencerville is 16th in the Div. V, Region 18 computer rankings. The Bulldogs are 19th in the loaded Div. VII, Region 26. Fifteen teams in region 26 have at least five wins. Seven teams have six or seven wins, and 18 are over .500.

Injured Bulldog junior quarterback Levi Green is expected to play at Spencerville. He suffered a sprained ankle in week six vs. Bluffton and missed the Jefferson contest.

Freshman backup QB Blake Zoladz throws a good ball and filled in well during the win over Delphos Jeff.

“We need to clean up the turnovers if we expect to compete going forward,” said Smith.
