Bulldog volleyball opens with win at Waynesfield

WAYNESFIELD–The Ada High School varsity volleyball team tipped off its 2023 regular season with a four-set win at local foe Waynesfield-Goshen Saturday morning, August 19.

The Bulldogs dropped an overtime first set, but rallied to take the next three games handily and capture the match.

Ada starts its season 1-0 after the 25-27, 25-14, 25-20, 25-8 non-conference comeback win. 

Scrappy W-G is 0-1 after their opening loss.

“It was a great first win,” said Ada head coach Kyleigh Woodruff. “We worked really well together as a team.”

Senior setter Autumn Andreasen dished up 20 assists. She also knocked down five kills, served five aces and came up with 12 digs. 

Senior southpaw hitter Mariah King knocked down a team-high 10 kills. Sophomore middle Anna Conley contributed eight kills and seven blocks.

Junior libero Jenna Bassitt mustered 23 digs in her first start at the position.

Senior Daicy Robinson hit four kills and had three blocks. Junior Tess Griffith came up with 14 digs and hit three kills.

Sophomore defensive specialist Alyssa Madison came up with 17 digs, while senior defensive specialist Josie Phillips hustled up 16 digs.

The Ada junior varsity also beat W-G, 2-0.

W-G was led by junior hitter Tatelyn Faraglia with 16 kills, nine digs, four assists and two aces.

Freshman setter Tarynn Vorhees passed out 17 assists in her varsity debut. She also mustered up a dozen digs and hit one kill.

Taryn Tate compiled four kills, one dig, one assist and a block. Gracie Zechman contributed three kills, three digs, two assists and one block.

Bella Fry knocked down three kills, hustled up 14 digs and dealt two assists. Lauren Youtsey hammered five kills. 

Kylee McGinnis came up with 21 digs and served a pair of aces. Cassidy Bigelow added seven digs, two assists and a kill.

“We have things to work on, but we will get better,” said veteran W-G head coach Kelly Searson.

Ada hosts Arcadia Monday, August 21 in their home opener. The Bulldog spikers then travel to face Hardin County foe Kenton August 22.

W-G visits Fairlawn August 22.
