Bulldog baseball win at Arcadia

By Cort Reynolds

ARCADIA– The visiting Ada baseball team beat Arcadia 8-5 in a non-league contest Saturday morning.

Ada improved to 6-13 with their second non-league road win over a BVC foe in as many days. Arcadia fell to 6-16 with the loss.

“We played better again this time out,” said Bulldog first-year head coach Toby Smith. “We are playing our best baseball right now.”

Freshman Mason Wibley hit two doubles, singled and drove in two runs to pace the Bulldog offense.

Spencer Wall singled twice, drove in three runs and scored one run. Max Puerto had two hits, scored two runs and drove in one run.

Winning pitcher Roman Snyder went the distance, striking out a season-high 14 Redskins in seven innings. He scattered eight hits and gave up four earned runs while walking two.

The Bulldogs got off to a 3-0 lead and never trailed. Arcadia did cut a 6-1 deficit to 6-4 after six innings, but Ada staved off the Redskins and added two late runs.

Bulldog Levi Green was hit by a pitch with two out in the first inning, and advanced on a single by Roman Snyder. Green then scored on an RBI single by Spencer Wall to give Ada an early 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Puerto singled with one out and stole second. Jacob Sutherly walked and both moved up on a Snyder walk.

Wall then delivered another clutch two-out hit with a two-run single. To provide a 3-0 margin.

In the Redskin fourth, Adam Emmerich doubled and scored to cut the Ada lead to 3-1.

In the Ada fifth, Puerto was hit by a pitch and came in to score on a passed ball. In the top of the sixth, Wall reached on an error and Wibley doubled.

Kaine Fisher and Levi Sousley singled to help Ada stretch its lead to 6-1.

In the home sixth, Arcadia rallied with three runs. Two walks, a two-run single by Blayne Colman and an RBI double by Lamarion Tucker pulled the Redskins within two runs.

In the seventh, Green was again hit by a pitch and stole second. Snyder was hit and Wibley smacked an RBI double to stretch the lead to 8-4.

Arcadia scored an unearned run in the seventh behind a leadoff error and a single.

But Snyder struck out the last two hitters to end the threat and the game strongly.

Ada knocked out 10 hits and had four hit batters, plus two walks.

Both teams left six runners on base, and each squad committed one error. Arcadia stole nine bases, and Ada swiped three.

Ada hosts non-league foe Arlington (8-10) Tuesday.
