Hardin County "CHIP" committee invites the public to Feb. 21 meeting

Hardin County's Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) committee will meet at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21 for the new CHIP draft presentation and to get the committee's feedback for the final draft.

Those who are interested in attending the meeting are asked to email or call Katy Flinn at 419-673-6230 ext. 1816.

My Heart Will Go On: Heart health

Celine Dion released the single My Heart Will Go On as part of the Titanic movie sound track in November of 1997.  The song hit the top of the charts in 25 countries and was the best-selling single in 1998.  The song dominated the 1999 Grammy Awards and won an Academy Award.  

Celine is known for her powerful voice with strong technical skills.  She recently has suspended all shows due to her developing a rare disease known as stiff-person syndrome.  It was announced in January of 2024 that Amazon MGM Studios will be releasing a documentary about this topic titled I Am: Celine Dion. 

Agricultural Drone Use is topic of Feb. 22 breakfast

HARDIN COUNTY__The 2024 Conservation Tillage Club breakfast program series will conclude on Thursday, February 22 at the Plaza Inn Restaurant, 491 S. Main, Mt. Victory, Ohio. 

  • 7:30 a.m. with a complimentary buffet breakfast
  • 8:00 a.m. Drone use in agriculture program

Henry County OSU Extension Educator Alan Leininger will provide the program. Drones are becoming more common in agriculture than just for scouting crops for insects, weeds, and disease. More recently, they are increasingly being used for seeding cover crops and pesticide applications in fields throughout Ohio. What types of drones are available and what are the legal and licensing requirements to use these new tools on the farm will be questions answered by Leininger.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce is “Growing Business and Community!” with a new billboard on SR 309. Beginning with a reminder that Ada has great shopping, lodging and restaurants for the April 8 solar eclipse, the message will be updated throughout the coming year.

Land transfers for January 2024 in the Ada Schools district

The following eight land transfers took place in the Ada Exempted Village School District in January 2024 as reported on the website of the Hardin County, Ohio auditor Michael T. Bacon  and Hancock County, Ohio auditor Charity Rauschenberg.

Seminar on combating financial exploitation of seniors

Hardin County residents are encouraged to "Get involved. Stay safe. Combating financial exploitation!"

From 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, the Hardin County Council on Aging, 100 Memorial Ave., Kenton, will host a program providing valuable information on:

  • What is financial explitation
  • Why older adults are targeted
  • Risk factors of financial exploitation
  • Abuse later in life
  • Forms of abuse
  • How forms of financial abuse occur
  • Scams
  • Who are the abusers
  • What you can do

The event is presented by the Ohio Coalition for Adult Protective Services and sponsored by HealthPath. The program is also promoted by the Area Agency on Aging.
