AHS girls soccer takes loss vs. Wildcats
By Cort Reynolds
DELPHOS--The visiting Ada High School girls soccer team lost 3-1 to Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference match Monday evening, October 10.
The Bulldog girls dropped to 5-10 overall and 0-5 in NWC play with the defeat.
The Lady Wildcats improved to 8-6-1 overall and 4-2 in NWC action with the victory.
The game was tied 1-1 at the half. Ada junior Olivia Burkhart scored the Bulldog goal on a penalty kick. DJ then won half two, 2-0.
"If we were healthy, the score line goes the other way with us winning this game," predicted Ada head coach Doug Dewese. "We are down (leading goal scorer) Ella Marshall, who is just finishing her concussion protocol and will be available Thursday for Miller City.
"We also missed Jordyn Smith, who has come on strong as a solid outside back this year as a freshman," Dewese continued.
"(Goalkeeper) Katie Sizemore is also out for the season with knee issues," he went on. "That made us play with limited subs and moving a lot of players into spots outside their normal roles.
"All things considered, we played very well and with some of the best efforts all season from the ladies," he added.
Goalkeeper Lexi Poling saved 11 of the 14 Wildcat shots for Ada. "It was a very strong effort by her in goal," said Dewese.
The Bulldogs visit Miller City (12-3-1) Oct. 13 in a non-league bout.
Ada hosts backyard rival Allen East (10-5-1, 2-3 NWC) in a makeup contest Saturday, Oct. 15 to end the regular season.
AE beat Spencerville 3-1 Monday behind two Aubrey Young goals.
