Summary of May 19 Board of Education meeting

Agenda packet and approved minutes for April 2022

The Ada Exempted Village Schools board of education held a regular meeting on May 19. All board members were in attendance. Teachers from the Ada Schools were in attendance, filling all of the available chairs, to witness the approval of contracts for the next school year.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

The board held a 15 minute executive session to consider confidential employment matters.

PUBLIC COMMENT

The gallery was full, but no guests addressed the board.

REPORTS

Robin VanBuskirk gave a report on behalf of High School principal Dan Lee (who was announcing at the track meet hosted by Ada that evening) and principal Tim Closson gave a report on the Elementary School.

VanBuskirk also introduced Tim Vernik, who has been hired as District Technology Coordinator with a salary of $59,500, and Sarah Phillips who has been hired as a kindergarten teacher with a salary of $55,411.

Light noted many changes in funding over the first ten months of the fiscal year and that expenses were trending on track. There was a 14% increase in income tax revenues. She noted that 27 of 66 graduates were receiving scholarships. She also noted that inflation is impacting the schools. 

All of the treasurer's reports were approved unanimously.

SUPERINTENDENT

Robin VanBuskirk presented 26 recommendations, which were approved unanimously. This included accepting bids for two new school buses, contracts for certified and classified employees, supplemental contracts and the list of seniors for graduation. (See attachment for details.)

In her comments section, VanBuskirk congratulated Mike Styer on receiving a teacher of the year award from Quest Federal Credit Union and thanked Tim Closson for serving as interim elementary principal.

The next meeting of the Ada Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. on June 29. It was noted that this is not the usual date.

At 6:39 the board entered executive session with no action to be taken.
