Summary of April 19 Village Of Ada Council Meeting

While Councilor Linda Mason and Mayor David Retterer were not present and Councilor Jason Campbell joined the meeting during the public comment section--after completing his duties as coach of the Ada High School baseball team (and a big 14-0 win versus Waynesfield-Goshen--the Ada council did have a quorum for the April 19 meeting, which was chaired by Council President Jeff Oestreich.

TRANSFERS

After a brief review of three or four items, the council unanimously approved transfers including employee payment and the corrected classification of a street sweeper purchase in 2016 which improves the refuse fund balance.

PUBLIC COMMENT

New Ada Area Chamber of Commerce director Lindsay Walden introduced herself to the council and reviewed plans for the August 27, 2022 Made in Ada Wilson Football Festival. Walden noted that the event would continue the punt, pass, and kick competition at ONU, hoping to turn this into a sanctioned so that a children participating would be eligible to advance to a regional competition.

The chamber is also planning festivities at Depot Park: two bands—Voodoo Lane, local group with several veterans and Shifferly Road Band—are booked for the event. The chamber is applying for an F2 beer permit and have service organizations lined up to serve and manage sales of wristbands and drink tickets. The chamber has consulted with local businesses that serve alcohol. Council president Jeff Oestriech requested a memo detailing the request for permission from the village and police chief.

RESOLUTIONS

The council passed the second reading of an ordinance to vacate an alley between lots 25 and 24.

OLD BUSINESS

Councilor Sheila Coressel reported on the April 11 meeting of the Ada-Liberty Ambulance board, noting that there were 172 calls for service in Mary with 48 no-transport calls and 16 mutual aid calls. She noted that 89 calls were for illnesses and 19 were for trauma.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Safety Services: Jeff Oestreich: Officer Crawford has completed his initial hiring period of probation while being promoted to sergeant.

Utilities / Sean Beck: The councilor asked village administrator Jamie Hall to review two brand new and quite large water and sewer bill adjustments. Hall explained that both were leaks at mobile home locations and that an ordinance allows the village to make adjustments. Customers will pay for water used and will get a credit on sewer charges above usual amounts.

Fiscal Officer’s Report / Patty Navin: Navin attended an online state auditors conference and that income taxes were due tester day, April 18, if anyone forgot.

Police Chief’s Report / Michael Harnishfeger: The chief reported that he has submitted grant proposal to the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice for a 10% retention bonus to officers who stay the whole year. The grant would cover pension and workers compensation.

Since the last council meeting, the police department has responded to a couple domestic incidents, encarcerated a male and responded to an OVI. Work continues on several larger investigations and a firearm previously stolen in Ada was recovered with the assistance of a business in Cridersville.

Village Administrator’s Report / Jamie Hall:

Grass Clippings Reminder: When cutting grass, please blow clippings back into the yard. Clippings do not wash out of catch basins. He noted that a village ordinance allows residents to be fined for leaving clippings in the street.

Brush Pickup-Chipping: Hall also noted that monthly brush pickup/chipping begins May 2. Limbs and trimmings should be lined up with cut ends together. The cost of pickup begins at $20. Residents should call the village at 419-634-4045.

Alley maintenance: The village has been doing seasonal through alley maintenance. Please call the office if anything was missed (not private driveways).

Special Council Meeting April 26: Residents are invited to a second discussion of the Grandview curb and paving project. There will be at least 3 meetings.

Council was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
