Come on downtown Ada on Friday night

The Buy Ada First Committee has organized a Music On Main event for Friday, July 13, from 6 – 8 p.m. at The Depot parking lot, weather permitting.

WONB 94.9 FM is providing music, several businesses are having sidewalk sales, some restaurants will be offering specials, the Ada Rotary Club is having a chicken barbecue fundraiser and more.

Bring lawn chairs, enjoy dinner, visit the businesses, listen and dance to music and spend time in Ada with friends and family.

The Buy Ada First is an Ad-hoc group. Participation is welcome. For more information, please feel free to contact Heather Cox at 419-634-5015.

If you've not checked out the Village Garden lately, take some time to stop and smell the flowers. 

Ada blood drive

Mark Curth was among Ada blood donors at the American Red Cross blood drive yesterday at Ada Community Health Professionals.  Assisting him is Jacki Lallathin, nurse with the Red Cross. The drive's 29-pint goal was exceeded. The next blood drive is Sept. 10.

Alisa Armbrecht Health Chek owner: "This job was a leap of faith I'm glad I took"

High school life was over; it was time to be an adult. In the early 1990s that was the reality faced by  Alisa Armbrecht, today owner of Health Chek, a store that sells health foods and health and beauty supplies at 117 S. Main Street in Ada.

“I was a waitress, I worked in a factory, then I worked at the Lima News,” she said. “I was just trying to find my way in life early on.”

Armbrecht worked at the Lima News for a few years working in its production department, but decided she wanted to go in a different direction.

The birthday of Joe Ferguson (July 6th) was celebrated in song.

The 50th membership anniversary Mark Shull was noted. He joined the club on July 1st, 1962.

The wedding anniversary of Tom and Karen Kier (June 30th, 1984) was also noted.

It was reported that member Dustin Brooks of the financial services firm Edward Jones in Ada recently won the firm's exclusive Spirit of Partnership Award for outstanding performance during 2011.

The Voices of Ohio hold First United Methodist benefit concert July 28

July 28 at 7:00 p.m.

March 13 was a day of shock and change for Ada First United Methodist Church
when the members’ beloved church burned down.  Two members of this
congregation, Melanie Woods and Michele Elliott, are also members of The
Voices of Ohio, an exciting and dynamic adult performing vocal ensemble.

To help Ada First, the ensemble has volunteered to perform a benefit concert
on July 28 at 7:00 in the Ada School Auditorium.
