Weekend Doctor: Hypertension in pregnancy

Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy (HDP) account for 32% of maternal deaths in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). One in seven hospital deliveries may be affected by this complication of pregnancy. What are these disorders? How are they managed during and after pregnancy? Can a person do anything before becoming pregnant to decrease their risk factors?

First, let’s examine what is considered high blood pressure. Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80. High blood pressure is greater than 140/90. 

There are different types of HDP. Chronic hypertension is a diagnosis of hypertension that is present before the person becomes pregnant. It can also be diagnosed if elevated blood pressures are found before 20 weeks of gestational age. Gestational hypertension is the diagnosis of hypertension that is made after 20 weeks of gestational age.

Ada council prepares to put utility aggregation programs on November 5 ballot

At the July 16 regular meeting of the Village of Ada Council, two resolutions were approved that will put governmental electric and natural gas village aggregation programs on the November 5 ballot in Ada.

Leis takes AEDG helm; Stratton to lead GLR and advance initiatives

The Allen Economic Development Group (AEDG) has announced that Cindy Leis is its new President and CEO. This follows Dave Stratton's transition to President and CEO of the Greater Lima Region (GLR). Stratton has been with AEDG since 2015 and led the organization since 2019. Both boards have approved the transitions, which took effect on Monday, July 15.

This shift marks a new era for both AEDG www.aedg.org  and GLR greaterlimaregion.com/. With Leis at the helm of AEDG and Stratton steering GLR, the two organizations are set to work collaboratively toward shared goals of supporting economic, business, and community development in Allen County and the surrounding region.

Leis’s primary goals will be infrastructure and site preparedness, attraction of new business, supporting existing businesses in Allen County and job creation in Allen County.

Apollo board of education meets July 22

The Apollo Career Center's next regular board of education meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 22, 2024, at 7:00 p.m.
