Bulldogs host Ada wrestling Invite; McClain, Vieira take 2nd

The Ada High Schoolwrestling team hosted the 19-team Ada Invitational Saturday, February 5, with two Bulldog grapplers taking second in their respective weight brackets. 

Marion Elgin won the team championship with 296 points. Fostoria took second with 183, while Bucyrus was third (178). Ada finished 12th with 58.5 points.

Bulldog sophomore Clayton McClain finished second in the 126 lbs. bracket with a 4-1 record. 

Ada freshman Liam Vieira took second in the 120 lbs. bracket, with classmate Aedyn Beckwith right behind him in third. 

Freshman Rowan West was the other Bulldog placer in sixth at 132 lbs.

McClain went 2-0 in pool D to advance to the tournament round.

Seeded second, he won by pin at 51 seconds in his quarterfinal bout.

In the semifinals, McClain won an 11-6 decision over junior Landyn Lowery of Van Buren. In the championship round, he lost by pin at 3:04 to top seed senior Gavin Caprella of LCC.

Vieira finished 4-1 in his weight division with four pins. Beckwith fashioned a 3-2 mark at 120 with two pins and a 14-7 decision win.

Vieira beat Beckwith in a 16-9 decision to take second.

West finished 2-2 in pool play with one pin and a decision victory.

In the 132 lbs. fifth-place bout, he lost by pin at 2:34 to junior Mason Gephart of Bucyrus. Also at l32 lbs., Ada freshman Trevor McGue went 0-4.

At 165 lbs. Ada freshman Colton Cole posted a 1-3 record in pool play with one pin. At 175, Bulldog frosh Landon Simon finished 0-2.

Ada wrestles next in a triangular meet Tuesday, February 15 at Riverdale with county rival Kenton. 

The NWC title meet is Friday, Feb. 18 at Bluffton.
