Ada's Sumner named HM all-league spiker

Ada High School junior Courtney Sumner was voted honorable mention All-Northwest Conference in voting recently (October 2021) conducted by the league coaches.

The versatile Sumner was among the team leaders in kills, digs and aces. The Lady Bulldogs finished 2-19 overall and 0-7 in the NWC.

Lincolnview senior Kendall Bollenbacher was named NWC Player of the Year.

JaNahn Evans was named NWC Coach of the Year by her peers after leading the Lancers to a third straight conference crown.

Lincolnview, Crestview and Leipsic tied for the NWC title at 7-1. 

Oct. 27 community meal at St. Mark Lutheran

St. Mark Lutheran Church, 125 S Johnson St,  is serving their Free Community Meal from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27.

The meal is free and open to the public.  This month's meal consists of a macaroni, cheese, beef, tomato skillet; green beans; fruit; and a cookie.

You may dine in, drive up, or carry out.  Organizers would like to thank all those who dined, who donated, and who served in September, when 117 meals were served.

There will not be a community meal in November. The event will resume in December.

Return to Dignity meets in Bluffton

Return to Dignity is a recovery group based on the 12 step program pioneered by AA. For anyone suffering from damaging addictive behaviors, meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday at the Bluffton First United Methodist Church, Upper Room, 116 Church St.

Clara Jewel Marshall was born in Pineville, KY

Clara Jewel Marshall, age 73, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at 11:03 p.m. at Lima Memorial Health System.

She was born on May 24, 1948, in Pineville, Kentucky to the late Dit and Harriett (McNew) Evans.  On March 22, 1967, Jewel married Haulie Marshall and he survives in Ada.

Dennis L. Burris was a farmer

Dennis L. Burris, age 76, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at his residence in Ada.

Dennis was born on August 12, 1945, to Dorothea Newland. His father was Robert Newland.  Dennis graduated from Ada High School in 1964. He and Kathryn James were married on June 12, 1965.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Kathryn (Kathy); his son, Brent (Sharon) Burris; a grandson, DJ (Michelle) Burris of Kenton; and two great grandchildren: Brooklyn, age 8 and Colton, age 5.

Ada boys soccer stung by Hornets

The visiting Ada boys soccer team lost a rematch at local rival Cory-Rawson 3-1 Saturday afternoon, October 23,  in Div. III sectional second round play.

Sixth-seeded Ada ends its season 7-8-3 after the defeat that snapped a three-match win streak. 

Fifth-seeded Cory-Rawson improved to 8-6-3 with the victory.

The Bulldogs had defeated C-R 4-1 in Ada on September 22. 

Ada ended up 4-4-2 on the road this season.

The Hornets advanced to the district semifinals at Tiffin Columbian Wednesday, October 27 at 5 p.m., against Northwest Conference champion Bluffton (12-3-2).

Top-seeded Bluffton whipped 12th seed Old Fort 8-0 Saturday afternoon.
