Bulldog boys lose to more physical Musketeers

The Ada boys basketball team lost to visiting Fort Jennings 60-35 Saturday night, November 27, one day after opening the season with a buzzer-beating win.

Musketeer freshman Jarron Swick poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the visitors to victory.

Ada fell to 1-1 with the non-league defeat, while FJ evened its mark at 1-1 with the win.

"They were the tougher, more physical team," said Ada head coach Vince Halliday. "They had a tough loss the night before and came in ready. We were not eager.

Credit Check Wednesday helps identify scams, identity theft

Following November "shopping holidays," Elder Victim Ministry has coordinated a December 1 "Credit Check Wednesday" program. Individuals can go to participating financial institutions to access their credit report for free.

“In working with identity theft or scam victims, we’ve observed that most have not checked their credit report,” said Elysia Bush, Director of Elder Victim Ministry (EVM), a program of Crime Victim Services. According to the Federal Trade Commission, it’s important to check your credit report to guard against fraud and identity theft. 

Four financial institutions, including 15 branches in the area, are participating this year:

The Alger Public Library is teaming up with Texas Roadhouse restaurant, 1940 Roschman Ave in Lima for a dine-in or to-go library fundraising event from 3-10 p.m. on December 15.

Present the printed flyer or display it on your phone and Texas Roadhouse will donate 10% of your total food purchase to the Alger Public Library, 100 Wagner St, Alger, OH.

Buzzer shot lifts Ada over Ridgemont in opener

Ada guard Spencer Wall banked in a lane runner as the buzzer sounded to lift the Bulldogs to a thrilling 60-59 win over visiting Ridgemont in the boys basketball season-opener Friday night, November 26.

The win was the debut of new head coach Vince Halliday. "Wasn't that fun," a jubilant Halliday said afterward. "Spencer was outstanding, and it was an outstanding team effort."

Wall tallied a career-high 26 points to pace the Bulldogs to victory.

Gopher Landon Newland had given the visitors a one-point lead by burying an 18-footer from the left wing with 13 seconds left.
