Ada's McClain wrestles at district meet

Ada High School sophomore Clayton McClain competed in the Div. III district wrestling tournament Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5, at Hobart Arena in Troy.

McClain authored a 1-2 mark in the 126 lbs. bracket of the double-elmination event to finish his season with a 27-11 record.

McClain won his first-round match Friday by a 5-3 decision over fellow sophomore Levi Griffin of Middletown Madison.

In his second round bout vs. undefeated Miami East senior Max Shore, McClain was pinned at 1:09 to drop into the consolation bracket.

Ohio Northern University students, faculty and staff are embarking on several unforgettable service and learning-oriented trips this semester, particularly during spring break, which begins March 7.

Astronomy club meets March 9 in McGuffey

The Hardin County Astronomy Club will meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9 at the McGuffey Village multipurpose room, which is behind the post office, 402 Courtright St. Anyone interested in astronomy is welcome to attend.

Topics scheduled for the meeting include: Activities needed for applying for non-profit status,  Participants will be introducing the constellation Leo, sharing sketches of the constellation Leo that each person has done, and Newtonian telescope alignment.

Reminder: No after school programs week of March 7

The Ada School issued this reminder: there will be no after school program during the week of 3/7-3/10.  These activities will resume on March 14.

Weekend Doctor: Finding purpose in retirement

We work hard through a 30-plus year career. We contribute to 401k or look forward to that pension. Retirement happens and then we feel freedom and bliss right? Not necessarily.

Recent studies have shown as much as a 40 percent increase in depression after retirement. That daily grind we put in for years was difficult, sometimes we put in blood, sweat and tears while working long and tedious hours. However, that job gave us a sense of purpose and meaning. 

Ada diamond sports registration through March 11

Registration for Ada diamond sports for ages 5-14 is currently taking place online and closes March 11. Visit www.tinyurl.com/2p967sfu to complete the process.

To register, you will be asked to complete a form for each player and then make payment at the time of registration. Payment will be debit or credit card. All fees are non-refundable.

Registrations will be accepted for the following age groups (age as of June 1, 2022). The grades listed are "suggested"; if the player falls within the age group, they are eligible:
