Summer reading program registration now underway

Early registration for the Ada Public Library’s Summer Reading Club begins Wednesday, May 23, with the program starting on Thursday, June 7, at the Community Health Professional building located at 1200 S. Main St. in Ada.

Readers can log in the books they read starting Monday, June 4.

There will be special guests, activities, prizes and books to keep readers entertained throughout June and July. The program is open to ages 3 through 14.

Ada boys advance in three events to track regionals

The Ada boys' track team advance in three events to regional competition this week. At Liberty Benton's district, the follow boys qualified for regionals:

400 dash - Matthew Wilcox, third, 52.89

1,600 relay - Mitchell Wilcox, Christopher Beaschler, Jonathon Roby, Matthew Wilcox, third, 3:34.35.

Shot put - Ryan Allen, second, 48-09.5.

Ada's team finished fifth with 49 points behind Columbus Grove, first, 130.5; Lima Central Catholic, second, 105; Patrick Henry, third, 103.5; Carey, fourth, 55.

ONU softball team bows out of NCAA III World Series

Salem, Va. -- A solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inn ing broke a 1-1 tie and lifted No. 6 Luther (Iowa) past No. 25 Ohio Northern 2-1 in Game 5 of the NCAA III Softball World Series Saturday morning at Moyer Park.

The Norse improve to 41-8 and advance in the loser's bracket. They will face the loser of Saturday's night's game between No. 15 Plattsburgh State (N.Y.) and Roanoke (Va.) on Sunday at 2:30 pm.

The Polar Bears end their season at 31-14.

Boehm and Rojas awarded Rotary scholarships

Ada seniors Mitchel Boehm and Rogelio "Roy" Rojas were each awarded $500 scholarships by the Ada Rotary Club.

ONU Professor and local Rotarian Bill Trudeau announced the awards at the recent high school awards banquet.

Boehm plans to attend Ohio State University-Lima and will major in computer networking. 

Rojas, pictured with Trudeau, hopes to become a doctor.  His college plans are pending.

I'll Have Another to Win the Triple Crown?

Triple Crown hopeful I’ll Have Another likely will face 12 challengers in the Belmont Stakes in his bid to become the first Derby/Preakness/Belmont winner since Affirmed in 1978, the Daily Racing Form reports.

Optimizer is the only Preakness Stakes starter other than I’ll Have Another likely to run in the June 9 Belmont.
