Meet the team community pep rally Thursday

Want to meet the team? Icon viewers are invited to join the Ada High School football cheerleaders in a meet the team community pep rally. The rally is at 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 23, at the War Memorial Stadium.

Ada High School students may also register for the Bulldog Nation Superfan 5K on Sunday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m.. Forms available in the Ada High School office.

Ever wanted to be queen for a day? Here's your chance.

Ada High Schools students ages 15 to 18 (freshmen through seniors), are invited to apply to be considered the 2012 Ada Area Chamber of Commerce Harvest and Herb Festival.

According to the chamber applications are now available for the contest. This year's festival is Saturday, Sept. 12 in downtown Ada.

Applications may be picked up in the Ada High School office from Mrs. Pifer or in the Elementary from Mrs. Allison. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 5 pm.

Ashley Sujkowski helps Team USA win Silver medal at 2012 World Cup women's baseball tournament

Ohio Northern senior shortstop Ashley Sujkowski helped the 2012 USA Women's Baseball team win the Silver medal at the IBAF Women's World Baseball Cup in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Aug. 10-19.

Team USA won the silver medal after defeating Canada 17-4 in the semifinals, assuring itself of a medal for the fifth time in the five World Cup tournaments.

USA fell 3-0 to three-time defending champion Japan in the finals. Japan has won the world title in 2012, '10 and '08 and the United States has won Gold in 2004 and 2006.

ONU rolled out the orange carpet over the weekend. Students returned to Ada for the 2012-13 school year.

AEP Ohio files with PUCO for rate hike

AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP), filed its Electric Security Plan (ESP) tariffs with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). The tariffs show rate increases approved by the Commission on a total bill basis that include generation, distribution and transmission charges.                       

Coaches tab ONU as favorites to win second consecutive OAC Women's Soccer title in 2012

The No. 12-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team was picked as the preseason favorites to repeat as Ohio Athletic Conference champions in 2012 in voting conducted by the league's 10 head coaches.

The Polar Bears received 80 points and eight of the 10 first place votes in the coaches poll.

Otterbein was second with 72 points and one first place vote and Capital was third with 64 points and the final first place vote.

The Polar Bears went 16-3-2 overall, won the OAC Regular Season crown with a perfect 9-0-0 mark and advanced to the NCAA Tournament under ninth-year head coach Mark Batman.
