Kassandra Chiles, Luke Amstutz tie in Icon football week 2 contest

There was a five-way tie for first place in this week's Icon Football Contest. Jim Dillman, Kassandra Chiles, Luke Amstutz, Marc Shaner and Roger Steffan all correctly picked 13 of 15 games. 

Jim and Roger were eliminated by the first tie-breaker by picking Bluffton to win.  Marc was eliminated by the second tie-breaker by picking Ada to win by 1-7 points. That leaves two tied.

Kassandra Chiles and Luke Amstutz both picked 13 games correctly and had the same two tie-breakers.

Jane Elliott Utterback Weimer, 93, of St. Marys, formerly of Ada, died at 3:15 a.m. July 26, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 27, 1918, in Frankfort, Ky., to Robert Elliott and Vercil LeCompte Utterback, who preceded her in death. On Nov. 4, 1944, in St. Marys, she married David Weimer, who survives in St. Marys.

Ross Tournament MVP as No. 12 Men's Soccer wins 4-1

ERIE (Pa.)--Frehshman Keegan Ross was named Tournament MVP of the Herb Lauffer Memorial as the No. 12 Ohio Northern men's soccer team defeated Centre (Ky.) by a 4-1 score Sunday afternoon in the championship game at Penn State Behrend.

The Polar Bears are now 2-0-0 on the year while Colonels fall to 1-1-0.

Ross scored two goals today and one yesterday to give him three for the tournament. He also registered an assist.

Women's Soccer: ONU battles to 1-1 draw with Case Western Reserve

In one of the premiere matchups of opening weekend in NCAA Division III women's soccer, the No. 12 Ohio Northern women's soccer team tied No. 17 Case Western Reserve by a 1-1 score Sunday afternoon at the ONU Soccer Field.

ONU is now 0-0-2 on the season and Spartans now stand at 1-0-1.

The Polar Bears struck first in the 16th minute when sophomore Kristina Klusek blasted her second goal of the season into the right side of the net.

Senior Paige Garber picked up the assist on the play.

No. 12 Men's Soccer opens season with 4-0 victory at Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament

The No.12 Ohio Northern men's soccer team kicked off their season in dominating fashion, defeating Geneseo State (N.Y.) by a 4-0 score Saturday afternoon at the Hern Lauffer Memorial Tournament hosted by Penn State Behrend.

Northern (1-0-0) advances to the championship game tommorrow and will face off against Centre (Ky.) at 11:30 am.

The Knights fall to 0-1-0.

ONU got on the board first in the 27th minute when senior Nate Bascom beat the goalie who came out on the play.

Northern would tack on three goals in the second half, all within 20 minutes of each other.

Women's Cross Country opens up 2012 season with win at ONU Invitiational

Junior All American Alison Steinbrunner finished in first place to lead the Ohio Northern women's cross country team at the ONU Invitational Saturday.

ONU won the event with 18 points while Heidelberg was second with 64.

The ONU Alumni team came in thrid place with 67 points and Bluffton came in fourth with 97.

Steinbrunner completed the 4k course in 13:49.30.

The Polar Bears also grabbed second and third place finishes.

Senior Lydia Weaver finished in second with a time of 14:18.70 and freshman Aya Tomozawa grabbed a third place finish in 15:02.70.
