Ada's latest news

Here's the proof in this month's Icon Hometown Happenings

April is here, the weather is warming and Ada is slowing opening up.

The month’s Hometown Happenings is evidence of the community’s year-long waiting to turn the page.

Among highlights include performances of the spring Ada High School musical, a livestream of ONU’s steel drum and percussion in concert, several additional ONU livestream musical performances and a PaintINN at the Inn at ONU.

The April West Ohio Food Bank's Hardin County food distribution takes place from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, at the Dial-Roberson Stadium's front lot on the ONU campus, according to Jason Aldrich.

It is a no touch, drive-through distribution.

Enter on Klingler Road. To received food persons must be 18 or older, have a valid photo ID and proof of residency, be at or below 230 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and sign and eligibility to take food home form.

During an earlier food distribution in Ada, 100 families, most from Hardin County, were served. The West Ohio Food Bank distributed 38,356 pounds of food during the afternoon.

A moment on Friday Ohio focused on Ada and Ohio Northern University. Mike DeWine, an ONU law grad, with his wife, toured the HealthWise vaccination clinic in the King Horn Center. Upon arrival, the govenor, already wearing an ONU tie, was presented an ONU face mask. Watch the Icon for more photos on Sunday.

Roger L. Bixel, 86, died at 5:55 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Heritage Healthcare in Minster. He was born March 3, 1935, in Bluffton, Ohio, to the late Harold and Wava (Amstutz) Bixel. On July 26, 1959, he married Shirley M. Glaze, who survives in Lima.

Roger graduated from LaFayette Jackson High School in 1953, where he was active in athletics and music. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bluffton College in 1958. He earned his Master of Education degree in 1970 from Bowling Green State University.

Friday’s vaccination clinic at the Ohio Northern University King Sports Center takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is a change from last week’s announcement.

Governor Mike DeWine recently designated HealthWise Mobile Clinic as a mass-vaccination site for serving those who don’t have easy access to larger metropolitan areas where vaccines are more readily available.

This saying also goes for the information that we consume

By Amelia Alexander
We live in an age of information, but unfortunately, we also live in an era of misinformation.

Fake news spreads like wildfire. Fake news is information that is false or completely misleading that is presented as news. Fake news travels about 6 times faster than regular news on social media. This is extremely concerning.

Many of us consume news online, via social media. About 86% of adults admitted to at least getting some of their news through social media. 60% recorded that they often get their news from social media, according to a Pew research center study, conducted Aug. 31-Sept. 7, 2020.
