The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce recognized four "retired" volunteers for their many years of work in the Ada Harvest and Herb Festival.

The recognition took place during the Feb. 17 chamber annual dinner meeting in McIntosh Center. Deb Curlis, chamber president, presented the plaques. Curlis also provided members with an update on chamber board members.
Christina Liebrecht, assistant professor of nursing at Ohio Northern University, updated Ada Community Improvement members on ONU nursing students' involvement in the community. She spoke at the Feb. 17 CIC meeting.
Nursing students have participated in several community events including a service learning experience at ReStore, Ada Civic Engagement Day, Harvest and Herb Festival and Pack-A-Way Hunger event.
Terry Keiser, Ohio Northern University’s director of sustainability and professor of biological sciences, and Dr. Robert K. McAfee, ONU assistant professor of human anatomy, were selected as Believe in Ohio science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) Exemplars, by the Ohio Academy of Science.
The two, along with 81 others, will serve as role models for students to encourage them to pursue STEM careers and become entrepreneurs and innovators. Honorees are graduates of Ohio high schools, have attended higher education in Ohio or elsewhere, and are now gainfully employed or retired in a STEM field in Ohio.

The Ada Area Chamber of Commerce named the Ada Icon as its 2016 Outstanding Business/Industry of the Year at the chamber’s Feb. 17, annual dinner meeting.
Deb Curlis, chamber president presented the award to Icon owners Fred and Mary Steiner, during the dinner at McIntosh Center on the ONU campus.
The Icon also received a certificate of commendation from the Ohio Secretary of State’s office area representative, Brian Bauman.
The Icon is a news website with a primary focus on the Ada and Ohio Northern University communities. Ninety percent of its viewers live within 25 miles of Ada.
