Lady Bulldogs nipped by McComb in basketball opener

By Cort Reynolds

The visiting Ada girls basketball team led late but lost 28-27 at McComb on a last-minute three-pointer in the season lidlifter Friday night, November 19.

The Lady Bulldogs led 18-14 at halftime and held a 23-20 advantage going into the fourth period.

But with McComb down 27-25, Panther Madison Schroeder canned a three-point goal with 14 seconds left to give the hosts a one-point lead.

Ada got off a potential winning shot in the final seconds, but missed.

"Great effort by them all," said Ada fourth-year head coach Morgan Bass of her team. "We did a hell of a job on the boards. "We haven't been used to being the team that's up and not scrambling," she continued. "So I hope they stay hungry and we keep progressing."

Ada playmaker Courtney Sumner led all scorers with 20 points on the strength of five three-point goals. She netted eight points in the second stanza on two triples as the Bulldogs built a four-point lead going to intermission.

Ada sophomore guard Olivia Burkhart added five markers, canning a triple in the opening stanza.

Schroeder led McComb with 13 points.

The Panther girls canned 10 field goals, including seven two-pointers and three treys. The hosts converted five of their nine free throw attempts (56 percent).
