Bronte's "Wuthering Heights" Ada Public Library's November book discussion

The Ada Public Library invites Icon viewers to join its November book discussion. The group meets at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 6, in the library to discuss Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights."

Brief synopsis:

In the late winter months of 1801, a man named Lockwood rents a manor house called Thrushcross Grange in the isolated moor country of England. Here, he meets his dour landlord, Heathcliff, a wealthy man who lives in the ancient manor of Wuthering Heights, four miles away from the Grange.

Ada HS cross country pasta dinner-bake sale Oct. 18

It's all you can eat at the Ada HS cross country pasta dinner and bake sale.

It's held Thursday, Oct. 18 from 5- 7 p.m. at Community Health Professionals. Meal will include pasta, bread, salad  and is dine in or carry out. Tickets are $5 over age 12 and $3 age 4-12, tickets are available at Health Chek on Main Street they may be purchased at the door also.

There will also be a bake sale, anyone wishing to donate a baked items may drop it off there or call Don Robey at 419-634-0258 for pick up. All money raised will go to provide much needed items for the team.

 Several important dates are in October for students at Ada High School. Here's some of those event:

          Oct. 10th at 8:35 a.m. Senior’s presentation for caps & gowns
          Oct. 19th Fall Sports Senior Night
          Oct. 15th Waiver day- NO School
          Oct. 18th starting at 7:45 a.m. Orders and deposits for caps and gowns
          Oct. 18th & 19th Aspirations
          Oct. 19th End of the first nine weeks
          Oct. 25th School pictures starting at 8 a.m.
          Oct. 26th Grade cards sent home with students at the end of the day

Hospital offers statement on meningitis

Blanchard Valley Hospital Pain Management has received numerous telephone calls from patients who are concerned about a rare form of fungal meningitis (swelling in the brain with symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness, and fever) that has been documented across the US in people after having injections in the back.

The FDA identified the maker of the steroid involved in many of the cases as a specialty compounding pharmacy in Massachusetts.

Coin honors Hardin hero

Hardin County history buffs may now purchase a two-sided Delano Morey challenge coin from the Hardin County Historical Museum, Kenton. Coins are $20 each.

Morey was a member of the 82nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry (or 82nd OVI) an infantry regiment in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action at McDowell, Virginia, May 8, 1862.  According to the historical society, the supply of coins is very limited.
