Lions Club awards $5,750 in scholarship money

Five Ada High School grads on the receiving end

The Ada Lions Club  honored this year’s scholarship recipients on May 26.

As the selected recipients were announced they shared their plans and thanked the club for their scholarship awards.  The Ada Lions Club provided a meal to all scholarship recipients and their families. 

Madison Wright, recipient of one of last year’s Lions’ scholarships also attended the meeting. 

The Club awarded five scholarships this year for a total of $5,750. One special scholarship award was given in memory of 50-year Ada Lions member, Jerry Dearth, who served many years as treasurer of the organization and who died this year.  Alexandra Bates received this scholarship award.

Winners of this year’s scholarships are the following:
Miranda Wills $1,100
John B Sizemore $1,100
Jacob Thaxton $1,100
Grace Allison $900
Alexandra Bates $1,550

Since 2000 the Lions Club has given 103 scholarship awards totaling $92,950 to students at Ada Schools.

The Club in Ada has been in existence for 67 years.  Several fundraising projects include the annual Lions mulch sales, selling tickets for Ohio Northern University football and basketball games, selling raffle tickets, and selling food at the Harvest and Herb Festival.
