Zac Beaschler defeats Otterbein opponent
The Ohio Northern men's tennis team fell for the first time this season 6-3 to Otterbein at the West Campus Courts.
The Polar Bears move to 2-1 overall and are 2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 1-1, 1-1.
Senior Vinh Thai (Galloway/St. Charles) and sophomore Matt Garcia (Downers Grove, Ill./South) got ONU on the board with an 8-7 (1) victory at No. 1 doubles.
Otterbein led 2-1 after doubles play and won at Nos. 4 and 5 singles to go up 4-1.
Junior Zach Beaschler (Ada) rallied at No. 3 singles for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory to get ONU within 4-2.
OU closed out the match with wins as Nos. 1 and 2 singles.
Freshman isaac Spar (Ada) wrapped up the match with a 6-7(6), 6-0, 10-4 win at No. 6 singles.
The match was the first ever at ONU's new West Campus Courts facility.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday with a road match at John Carroll.
