"Cash mob" coming to Ada on Oct. 16 to support Main Street business

A “cash mob” is coming to Ada in October.

The Buy Ada First Committee, an ad hoc group consisting of local business people and residents, will hold the community’s first-ever cash mob on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The location, which is a prominent Main Street business, will be revealed soon.

“The Buy Ada First Committee has worked hard this year to promote the benefits that our community offers,” said Heather Cox, of the committee. “This summer we held the Music on Main that attracted several hundred people downtown for a fun summer family-oriented event.”

Six to be inducted into ONU Athletics Hall of Fame

Six members of the Ohio Northern University athletics family will be inducted into the University's Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, as part of ONU's Homecoming weekend.

They will be inducted on Friday during a banquet in Ohio Northern's McIntosh Center and introduced Saturday before the ONU football game at Dial-Roberson Stadium.

ONU honors alumnus during England Gate dedication ceremony

Ohio Northern University dedicated Dial-Roberson Stadium’s new gate and entrance plaza, the England Gate, named in honor of alumnus Dale “Bud” England Jr., on Sept. 22.

Surrounded by family, friends and the ONU community, England, along with ONU President Daniel A. DiBiasio, introduced the new structure to the stadium. England also served as honorary team captain in the game following the ceremony.

England, who graduated from Ohio Northern in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in business administration, is the very definition of a proud Polar Bear. As a student-athlete, he gave his all to help his team. As an alumnus, he continues to do so.

Earl Grigsby was a Korean War veteran

 

Earl Grigsby, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at 12:57 p.m. at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio.

He was born June 7, 1933 in Hindman, Kentucky,  to Timothy and Della (Sparkman) Grigsby and they are both are deceased.

He married Anas Anett Wireman on Aug. 21,1954, and she died Nov. 20, 1989.
Mr. Grigsby was a self-employed truck driver.

He attended the Freewill Baptist Church in McGuffey and was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFW Post #1275 of Lima.

SURVIVORS include: 2 SONS: Earl “Eugene” (Margie) Grigsby of Spencerville and Mark D. Grigsby of Lima.

Records fall as Men's Golf wins Mount Union Fall Invitational

Junior Colin Burns won Medalist honors on a record-setting day as the Ohio Northern men's golf team won the Mount Union Fall Invitational Sunday and Monday at Tannenhauf Golf Course and the Alliance Country Club.

The Polar Bears (21-4) won the 7-team tournament with a 36-hole school record score of 591.

Ohio Northern also broke its 18-hole team record with a first round 286 on Sunday.

Burns shattered his own 36-hole school record with a tournament-winning 70-70—140, claiming Medalist honors by six strokes.

Mount Union was second with a 607, Otterbein was third with a 608 and John Carroll was fourth with a 611.
