LIMA - Six members of the Ada varsity wrestling team competed in the 14-team Div. III sectionals at Lima Central Catholic Friday and Saturday.
Ada finished 12th and sent three wrestlers on to the district meet with strong individual performances. Dominating Allen East won the sectional crown easily by 98 points over second-place Wayne Trace (251 to 153). Coldwater came in third (143.5).
The Bulldogs compiled 52 points to finish ahead of Lincolnview and Pandora-Gilboa.
A top-four finish qualifies a wrestler to the next level of competition at the district competition in Troy.
Bulldog senior Reece Evans ended up third in the 152 lbs. class to post the top Ada showing at the double-elimination event.
Evans finished 4-1 in the tournament to up his season record to 26-11. He won three bouts by pin and one other by default in the third-place match.
Ada junior Colton Biederman came in a solid fourth at the 120 lbs. division. He registered a 2-2 tourney record to improve to 16-14 this winter.
Freshman Antonio Pettit also ended up fourth at 113 lbs. to make it to districts. He finished 2-2 at the event to run his record to 12-9 in an injury-marred campaign.
Junior Jonathan McClain finished fifth in the 220 lbs. bracket. He went 1-2 and won the fifth-place match by pin to earn an alternate spot at districts.
Ada freshman Kyle Mattson finished 0-2 in the 160 lbs. bracket to finish his season 4-11.
Junior Cole Anspaugh went 0-2 at 145 lbs. to end his season 8-16.
The Bulldog grapplers return to action in the Div. III district double-elimination tournament March 6-7 at Troy's Hobart Arena.
Evans is seeded third in his quarter of the 16-man, 152 lbs. district draw. In the first round Friday, he will take on two seed Mason Starnes (25-13), a sophomore from Brookville.
Pettit is a four seed in his quarter of the 113 lb. weight bracket draw. He will take on top-seeded fellow freshman Jason Shaffer (20-5) of Troy Christian in the first round Friday.
Biederman is a fourth seed at 120 lbs. and will face top seed freshman Boede Campbell (30-6) out of Xenia Christian.
A top four district finish in any weight class will advance a wrestler to the state meet at the Schottenstein Center of Ohio State University in Columbus March 13-15.
