Ohio Northern University named Military Friendly School

For the third consecutive year, Ohio Northern University has been named a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine. This distinction recognizes Ohio Northern for ranking in the top 15 percent among all universities and trades schools nationwide in welcoming military and veteran students. Schools and universities on the Military Friendly Schools list encourage policies, efforts and results used to recruit and retain military and veteran students.

Nine countries represented in Ohio Northern University’s LL.M. program

Fourteen lawyers from nine different countries have begun studying toward their Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law at Ohio Northern University’s Claude W. Pettit College of Law this month.

They make up the seventh class to join ONU’s unique, one-year graduate law program, which focuses on providing lawyers from transitional countries with the skills to help build democratic institutions and the rule of law in their home countries.

Wilson garage sale Saturday

Saturday is the once-a-year garage sale in Ada. Wilson Sporting Goods offers lots of items, too many to mention, at its Ada warehouse. The sale is from 8 a.m. to noon.

Miss Ohio visits Bluffton on Sunday

Miss Ohio, Elissa McCracken, will visit Bluffton on Sunday. Miss Ohio will speak during the 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning worship service at the Bluffton Presbyterian Church.

She is a neice of Jay McCracken of Bluffton, and is a student at Ohio Northern University. The Icon met up with Miss Ohio at Saturday’s Ada Harvest and Herb Festival. She told The Icon that she is taking the year off from ONU to tour Ohio and to prepare for the Miss America pageant. She will compete for the Miss America title in January 2013 in Las Vegas.

ONU to honor alumnus with England Gate dedication ceremony

Ohio Northern University will dedicate Dial-Roberson Stadium’s new gate and entrance plaza, the England Gate, named in honor of alumnus Dale “Bud” England Jr., on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m.

England, who graduated from Ohio Northern with a Bachelor of *Science in business administration in 1969, is the very definition of a proud Polar Bear. As a student-athlete, he gave his all to help his team. As an alumnus, he continues to do so.

The real thing

You'd expect real broom corn at a harvest and herb festival, wouldn't you? No one was disappointed at Saturday's festival on Main Street. Here's a photo of one of the exibits - you guessed it: broom corn.
